The ice maker in my fridge froze up enough times that I just turned it off and either bought ice or (infrequently) used ice trays. No more ice buying for me! Fill up the tray with a bottle of water (it holds just under 2 quarts) and the first nuggets start popping out after 10 minutes. It will continue to spawn ice for another 90 minutes or so, after which it turns off.

It does not appear to have a cooling mechanism for the actual ice tray, so they will start to melt. This ice really is for immediate use. I moved a tray over into the freezer and they all kind of gummed up, so that's probably not worth it.

The ice comes out as 1/2 inch cubed nuggets -- the kind you might find at a sonic drive through. They are soft-ish, so not as bad for your teeth as other ice cubes and quickly cools off your drink, but also melts quite quickly. Half way to crushed ice, but not quite

It is a bit expensive and I have not had a chance to compare either quality or productivity with some of the cheaper models. That said, I am quite happy with it and therefore unlikely to try one of the cheaper models. This model seems quite solid and well-built.

4.0 out of 5 stars Silonn Nugget Ice Maker
Reviewed in the United States on June 27, 2024
We previously had a GE Opal Counter top ice maker; loved it. It became impossible to keep clean as ice began having black mildew flakes and its not really cleanable internally without full disassembly. So, we ordered the Silonn Nugget Ice Maker. Its a bit different, in that it seems to be designed to run itself out of water making ice. so there is alot less water sitting around stagnate. The quantity of ice is great, basically identical to the GE Opal. Its insulated very well so ice stays frozen, even though the manual says get the ice before it melts. It stays frozen at least as good as the Opal, if not a bit better. We have noticed a bit more noise, but not disappointingly loud. We are completely happy thus far. Plus its about 2-3 inches shorter so fits under our new cabinets, the GE Opal didnt, and its more budget friendly. I may change my tune after a few more months, but so far completely satisfied.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sleek Delicious Ice

First off, the ice maker is beautiful and sleek and looks nice in the kitchen with the rest of the appliances. The cord is just perfect length and sturdy enough.

Secondly, the machine is very quiet and doesn’t make much noise which I thought was odd but it actually works out very well. And I don’t even notice that it’s on.

Next, the time it takes to make ice, I was very surprised that the machine instructions said it would take about an hour and a half and that’s exactly how much time it takes to make a full chest of ice cubes.

Me personally I love the ice cube that it makes. They don’t really melt that much in cold liquid, but one thing that I did notice is that if you take the ice out of the container and put it in another container in the freezer, the ice basically freezes together and makes one giant ice cube block, and my theory is that the ice is too wet and that is why it sticks together in the freezer.

4.0 out of 5 stars A mixture of hits and misses

This ice maker has a few great qualities I really appreciate, and others that cause it to fall short of the cheaper units I have.

Positive: I love that the basket and water reservoir are able to be fully removed for filling/emptying, cleaning, etc. The big "drawer" that holds the ice basket allows me to get my hands inside the unit for cleaning much easier than my others. After a small incident with mildew in one and mold(!!) in the other, this is much appreciated.

The light has been surprisingly useful, and illuminates both the reservoir and the ice basket portions of the machine, allowing easy viewing in the evenings. If you don't need the light or find it bothersome, you can turn it off with a click.

Neutral: It's about as fast as other machines I've tried, and the ice it makes is uniform and does not seem to clump. I've got mixed feelings about the insulation of the machine, but feel it does well enough in my warm house. I've started to place any ice I don't plan to use in a drink right away into a pitcher of water I keep in the fridge.

The self-cleaning feature is lengthy, but I'm not sure how good of a job it is doing. As with other machines, completely draining and drying the unit regularly is important. An occasional hydrogen peroxide wipe down is always a good idea.

Negative: the way the water intake is designed means that a good deal of water in the reservoir goes unused by the machine, and more water must be added before it will start to produce ice again.

The drain plug on the bottom of the machine is *very* frustrating. Double sided, presumably for the internal and ice-melt reservoirs, the way the plug is attached means it's difficult to get out of the way so the stream of water draining out doesn't go every which way. If you plan to drain this into a sink I imagine it will be less of an issue, but the counter I keep it on does not have easy sink access.

For the list price of this unit, a stainless steel scoop would have been a very nice addition, though I do appreciate the suction cup and hook provided to keep the ugly plastic one that is provided handy.

Other thoughts: Because the area I am in has very hard tap water, I use only filtered water in my ice makers. Highly recommend this to anyone - scale is easy enough to clean... if you remember, and if you actually bother to do so before it gets built up! The filtered water ice comes out clear and refreshing and does not leave a residue.

Overall this is an upgrade from my other machines, but it also retails for double the price. I'd recommend it, but a few relatively simple tweaks would improve the experience even further.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE Nugget Ice!
Reviewed in the United States on June 17, 2024
Finally used this for the first time yesterday and I love it! This isn't something I will keep out and use all the time, but for when someone is sick, especially with a sore throat or something and nugget ice is so easy to chew. We have specifically gone to RaceTrac or Chick Fil A to get nugget ice before and now I can have it at home! Works great, very nice looking machine. Ice melts when sitting but it cycles through, drains the water and remakes more. Would be nice if it kept the ice bin kept it cold enough to hold/keel the ice once its made but not sure a small machine can do all that and stay this small.

This ice maker holds a very small amount of ice, only 2.6 lbs but has 44 lbs in the product title in an obvious attempt to mislead buyers into thinking it's bigger. By the time it's done, there's just enough ice for 1 big drink! It's packed very well and looks nice, although it is tiny. I'd say it's worth about 1/4 of the asking price.
