Product description

What are Dolch Sight Words?

Dolch Sight Words are a list of 220 Non-nouns (pronouns, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions, and verbs) and 95 nouns that make up over 50% of the text your child will read in Kindergarten through third grade. Most Sight words cannot be easily sounded out (phonetically decoded) therefore being able to recognize these words is essential for your child’s literacy.

This game is a great way for your child to recognize Sight Words. It will show your child 4 Sight Words and ask them to pick the correct one.

They can play in two modes:

Practice Mode - This mode is great for a child just beginning to learn Sight Words. They can select which list they want to study. (Pre-Primer, Primer, First Grade, Second Grade, Third Grade, Nouns A-G, Nouns H-Z) If they pick the wrong answer it will help them learn the correct one.

Play Mode - This mode challenges your child by earning points for each correct answer. Once they complete the current level, they can go to the next. If they make three mistakes they have to start the level over. Your child needs to complete all 7 levels to win.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thumbs up from a beginning reader!

This app works great and really engaged my 4 year old. Another reviewer said the voice was "robotic", but actually the voice is clear and the words are very well annunciated. My kid has not played that many video games but started playing right away without instruction from me. The game is intuitive and the operation was smooth. I would recommend this app for kids of any age who are learning to read, sound out and recognize words.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW, such a BIG improvement !!!

I purchased this App for my 4 & 6 years old kids. It was recommended by Amazon and it can work in my tablet, phone and Fire TV (which not many Sight Word Apps can choose from). My kids like it, but got bored so easily. Last night, my kids played again and we noticed many changes were made compare with previous version.
1. Score display: we can see the progress bar and total games. So, we know when the game will be completed. My daughter was so exciting to complete the game and was surprise to see the little girl show up on the screen and she earned the "completed" badge.
2. Levels: As parents, I want to see my kids to complete each level and make sure they fully understand before going to next level. Before, they can go any level they want and move to next without completing the game. Now, they have to start from basic level and earn their way up. I definitely like the change.
3. Focus: We notice that when kids pick the wrong card, all the cards will fly out off the basket and score will reset to "zero" in the same level. It was so interest to see the kids' action when it happened. It also teaches them to focus. My daughter is really good on sight words, but she doesn't focus when she play the game. After the 1st time cards flying out, she is so focus and very caution on each game afterward.

I read the previous reviews and look like company really take customer's review into consideration. I did see a lot changes after previous user's review. I hope they will see my review and know they did a great job !!!

I will post more feedback after my kids play more games .... :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Good so far, but HIGH SCORE misspelled in game.

My son likes this game. However, embarrassingly, HIGH Score is misspelled on the web interface. Dezol, please fix. Thanks

3.0 out of 5 stars Has improved sight word recognition
Reviewed in the United States on February 9, 2016
It has worked to improve sight word recognition. I wish it would repeat the word in case the child gets distracted for any reason and miss the word. This has happened a few times to no fault of their own. how about a second chance or even a new word before making them start back to the beginning. Perhaps the child accidentally moved to fast and selected the wrong word. it would be great if the back ground or scene changed a little.

We are slowly teaching our 4 year old how to read, and since he is so into technology, tablets, phones, TVs... this makes it “fun”

5.0 out of 5 stars Great game for learning words

This is great for my 6 year old. He doesn’t play video games so this is the closest thing to a video game he has. Good for learning words!

1.0 out of 5 stars Too Good to be True.....
Reviewed in the United States on July 22, 2015
I normally wait for a review before purchasing any app. Especially with having to pay money for an app. I usually get the apps that are free. This app should have been free because there are lots of errors on this. But since Amazon recommended this app, I thought it would be a great app to use.

Good points about this app:
Uses appropriate lists for determining level of reader thorough vocabulary words
Uses audio and visual to assist children
Would have been a great tool for word recognition (see below for "Downsides")

Downsides...
The app makes this "funny robotic" voice at times when saying a word, which is not a good tool for fluency.

Words sometimes are not clearly stated and child cannot understand word because they cannot hear it--because, again it is not clearly said. The word sometimes sounds jumbled up. A child is not going to be able to read well if they cannot pronounce the word. Again, not a good tool for fluency.

Sometimes words that are meant to be verbalized are not said and just displayed, which is not good with this type of game (Makes me think the game was not tested and just rushed).

Also, there is only one game, where you pick the appropriate word from a laundry line and placed into a laundry basket. This is too repetitive and any child will get bored with this quickly.

There are no variety of games as you move up in different lists. They are all the same...

There is no "ending" so the child would not know when to stop playing the game.

May cause frustration for the child because there is no reward showing they made a specific goal. It only states points.

This game seems rushed and maybe it was not tested enough to show errors. These may seem like simple mistakes within the app, but they can be detrimental to a child's learning ability in literacy. If these mistakes are fixed, then I will give it at least 4 stars. But in the meantime, please do not waste your money on this app. I honestly wished this company made this app for free to get the feedback needed to improve on the paid version. So again, I do not recommend downloading this until all of the issues are fixed within this app. In the meantime, there are free apps on Amazon that are focused on sight words with a variety of games to play.

Sorry for negative review.

2.0 out of 5 stars My daughter did not like it at all
Reviewed in the United States on February 14, 2016
Cons: There isn't an option to begin with primary, first grade, or second grade words so you have to start at the beginning each time. Also, there isn't an option to repeat the word said so I hope you heard it correctly the first time. For the pre-primer, you have to answer 40 words correctly. I believe it should be a lower pass rate, say 90%, with the missed words repeated in the next section. My daughter did not like it at all.

Pros: It does contain sight words.
