1.0 out of 5 stars Utterly useless
Reviewed in the United States on June 9, 2014
This app requires that you have an Internet connection, which kind of misses the point of having a WiFi scanner if you're trying to use it to FIND a connection.

I'm guessing it's probably not the fault of the author but rather Amazon's draconian licensing policies. If it can't verify your license using the Internet, you can't use the software; I've seen this problem with other apps as well, but only with apps from Amazon.

It's a great application for finding WiFi access points, identifying the best channel for setting up a new AP, and troubleshooting signal issues, but exiting immediately if there's no Internet makes it worthless.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great wifi analyzer app.

This was a perfect app when free which is when I was able to grab one. Gives you a full blown WIFI analysis. (Great for checking signals in terms of db, sniffing and giving a graph. Will even show channels.) If you need to fine tune your wifi setup and or troubleshoot your network, great app to do so. Even better if you can find it free like I was lucky enough to do.

This is a first class WIFI analyzer program but it has a few issues that can improve it. The program will let you scan the available WIFI systems around your home and measure their signal strength, broadcast channel, see their MAC Address, and to see if they are being walked on by other neighboring WIFI systems (Channel overloading). It even tells you which of the systems are locked or unlocked and what their SSID is. It is fast and easy to use and it is a powerful troubleshooting and analysis tool. It is also very helpful to assist you in setting up a new network. I put together a video to show you the program in action and I hope it is helpful for you.

I have two issues with the program and they are:

* The permissions allow access to the Fine GPS location system and I do not know why that is included in the app. This is normally used for tracking your device or pushing directed ads to your device. I would hope the developer would explain why this is included in the code.

* The screen graphs and text are simply too small. I use another WIFI Analyzer program and I have for many years and the graphics are 4 to 5 times larger. That makes them easier to read and to see details in the analysis of all of the networks. This is a problem that needs to be addressed. Many areas have a lot of WIFI clutter and using the entire screen separates the data for easier visibility. I even show in my video what another WIFI program looks like on the radar mode and you will see the difference immediately.

This is a very good program and it measures both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bandwidths. I like the program a lot. It lets you find open channels, measure the WIFI field strength and even adjust the antennas of your WIFI system to optimize the coverage of the WIFI in your home. If the above two items were fixed it would be a 5 star app and be worth the asking price as a setup and analysis tool. I rated it 4 stars.

1.0 out of 5 stars Get InSSIDer, this is a paid app with adware and crashes
Reviewed in the United States on April 19, 2014
Even if you may get this app through the Free App of the Day, this is a paid app! It has the "Pro" as part of the logo and it is called "Pro".
It is absolutely inadmissible that it requires dubious permissions and contains adware.
By dubious permissions, I mean precise GPS location, access to USB, secure storage, etc. which cannot be changed in the app itself.
The first time I started the app, some strange ad graphic popped up, I dismissed it, and I wrote my initial review which others dinged as unhelpful.
I cannot reproduce the ad behavior as every time I start it now, it says "Unfortunately, WiFi Overview 360 Pro has stopped."
Shame on KAIBITS.
Get InSSIDer from MetaGeek, I believe it is much better, free, and it has no ads.
I have uninstalled the app and have wasted enough time on this.
You can ding this review as unhelpful but this app was a waste of my time.
If it works for you, that's good, unfortunately it did not work for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars You people need to do more research...
Reviewed in the United States on April 20, 2014
You people need to do more research...the app is a WiFi analyzer. It needs to be able to find the nearest WiFi signal and the best WiFi signal. Quoting the documentation Google provides for LocationManager:

"If your application only has the coarse permission then it will not have access to the GPS or passive location providers. Other providers will still return location results, but the update rate will be throttled and the exact location will be obfuscated to a coarse level of accuracy. Ever since the release of Android 4.2, user location results may be less accurate if your app requests the ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION permission but does not request the ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION permission. To meet the privacy expectations of users when your app requests permission for coarse location (and not fine location), the system will not provide a user location estimate that’s more accurate than a city block."

Knowing that...why would you expect a WiFi analyzer which FINDS THE NEAREST SIGNAL AND BEST SIGNAL STRENGTH TO USE COARSE LOCATION?!?! Think people... I mean come on. This is not a data mining app. This is actually a very good app and has a great interface. If you are so worried about a WiFi analyzer mining data how do you even use the internet? You might as well drop off the face of the Earth. Facebook and Google take a million more GB's of personal data from you every minute than this app ever will in your lifetime.

2.0 out of 5 stars When it worked it was great
Reviewed in the United States on February 28, 2023
There was an update that broke this app. About 60 seconds after opening the app, a window with no text appears on the screen blocking any function. Once a great tool, now a waste of space.
I would change my review if what is probably a failed nag screen or reminder (with no dialog or text) is removed.
I have a valid licence for this product.
