Product description

Combat Assistant, used for tracking initiative and status effects, intended for use with the Dungeons and Dragons rules set (4th Edition), although some users have noted its useful for previous editions and other role playing systems, e.g. Pathfinder.

Ever got confused by trying to keep track of status effects, hit points, healing surges, etc. in a game. Well, be confused no more with this versatile app for keeping track.

Useful for DMs who need to keep track of player defenses as well as hit points of their monsters. Will also automatically apply ongoing damage and check with you whether your creatures have made their saving throws. Monsters can also be pre-created and then are saved automatically to keep the flow of the game going without having to pause to add details of new creatures to the combat.

Useful for players to keep track of an entire party's details, including hit points, healing surges, temporary hit points and status effects.

Portraits can also be assigned to creatures, so you can take a photo of each player using your phone's built in camera and then quickly assign those photos to each creature.

Tutorial mode also available to show you the features of the application.

Tablet users please note that you must have an internet connection available the first time you run the app to obtain a license. Once you've run it once you can then use it offline until the next update.

Please note that none of the content in this application is created by or endorsed by Wizards of the Coast.

This version is identical to the free version, except that the paid version will save previously used information. With the free version, all infomation is lost every time you quit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple but effective

Built for D&D but easily adapted to many other platforms due to its flexibility (Pathfinder in my case). Built-in tutorial tells you most of what you need to know. Separate templates for PCs and NPCs, any number of fields can be included in either, and the format can be swapped around easily. One weakness is that almost all the fields are numbers-only making it difficult to include non-numeric data. The status effect system is also a little clunky and requires a bit of setup for each new effect. It's not a substitute for full stat blocks but it's very useful for initiative order and effect tracking.

4.0 out of 5 stars Makes combat smoother

I use this app as a player to keep track of my fellow adventurers' health. As the tank of the group, I like to keep track of how everyone is doing so I know when to best use my party-saving daily powers. This app does the trick and I appreciate the tutorials it has built in to get you set up. You can customize so much. Just go to settings and you can customize your views, stats, etc. If you want to try before you buy, there is a free version. It has the same stuff but doesn't let you save. I originally didn't think it had all the features I needed, but after toying with the settings, this app works great. I bought the paid version to support this dev and to be able to save my customization and player stats.

Simple but so very helpful! This allows me to easily track fights that can sometimes be get complicated with 6 PCs & a handful of various monsters. We run 5th edition D&D, so I had to customize the fields a bit. Customizing the fields within the app is not hard, but took a little bit of trial & error. It's not a perfect fit for 5th edition, but I think it's the best out there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Does what it does well..

It seems evident to me that the author really wanted to make an app they would use, not like some of these shovelware apps clogging up the marketplace. The initial configuration stage was involved because I wanted everything a certain way.. One weakness was no field for monster speed, but I put that in notes, good enough. I was able to run all the combat in an evening play session through this. It's a great feeling to have all of your various 'lasts until the end of your next turn' stuff tracked reliably. It's not perfect, but I will be relying on this app for the foreseeable future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Made for Older Versions of D&D, Works for 5E!
Reviewed in the United States on June 1, 2017
While this was designed for an older version of D&D (Pathfinder and 3.5), I've manipulated it into working for 5e. You just need to edit the fields for the current system, and most of the conditions are either still valid, or analogous to the current conditions in the 5e system. If you've got a Kindle and want to use it to keep track of your combat, this can work for your game. Just take some time with it before hand to set it up, and familiarise yourself with it, and you'll be fine!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best for 4.0
Reviewed in the United States on February 10, 2014
This app really needs a better tutorial. It is a great tool, keep a saved list of all re-occurring monsters and set up combat in moments. Exactly what I was looking for. Was really good for D&D 4.0. I have continued to use it for tracking battles in 5e.
