5.0 out of 5 stars A symphony of fun!
Reviewed in the United States on October 22, 2013
As usual, this app from 22Learn is absolutely wonderful. I love them because, working with children everyday, I need apps that are fun AND educational. While this app may just seem like musical toys to a child, the impact of music is not to be understated. An interest in music now can lead a child to pursue musical interests later, such as playing instruments and vocal performance. Research has shown time and again how musical knowledge benefits one's ability to multitask, think critically, and perform fine motor actions. This app is a wonderful introduction to music for children. It is sure to spark their interest and perhaps they will want to learn more about instruments and other types of music.

The app itself is delightfully-fun and sure to be a hit with children. It is easy to navigate and buttons can be pressed accurately with little hands. The main screen displays buttons that, when pressed, start one of the 8 fun music activities. The first is 'Animal Piano'. In this activity, players use shape recognition to fill in pieces of the piano. Afterward, users can freely tap the keys to create music or tap one of the piano's icons to hear a song, such as the Alphabet Song. The keys light up as songs are played, so it IS possible to learn to tap them out on your own, though this is obviously complex for young learners. Players can also record and play back their own melodies which is absolutely amazing!

'Matching Sounds' requires matching sounds/colors. It is a fun activity and, again, users can freely tap sounds, record, and play upon completion. 'Xylophone' also requires color matching and 'Drums' asks the user to build drums by matching shapes and colors. I think 'Drums' is the highlight activity for many children- there is just something about drums that screams 'cool' and kids love to beat on them even in a virtual environment. As with the other activities, rhythms can be recorded and played back.

The last two activities are 'Music Machine' and 'Super Music Machine'. Music Machine is advanced because it shows actual notes on music staves which is just tremendous. This is by far my favorite activity. Players drag notes onto a disc in the order they wish them to be played. Empty spaces can be left to create pauses. The user hits 'play' and the machine loops the track over and over. Tempo (speed) can be adjusted as well. Super Music Machine involves three discs, allowing the user to work with the note tones, xylophone tones, and drum beats. It's absolutely remarkable detail for a young learners app.

If your child loves musical toys at all, or even just songs in general, they will love this app. It has unlimited play potential due to its freestyle nature. It is very intuitive to use and the help button is great. It actually shows a virtual hand on the screen that displays what to do- absolutely perfect for children playing on their own. When you consider the cute animals, professional voice acting, and attractive illustrations, you have the perfect symphony of fun activities that is Animal Piano!

1.0 out of 5 stars In Canada using a KOBO E-Reader
Reviewed in the United States on September 11, 2013
It would never populate the screen of my Kobo. I could hear it, but not see it. After trying several times it wiped out my Kobo for at least three days. It would not power up or anything. I thought my e-reader was a dead...so I started to look for a tablet. Finally, days later I thought I would try my Kobo one more time...OMG, it came on. The game responded the same way.,.hear, but not see, so I deleted it from my Kobo. Too bad the ratings seemed wonderful. Suggestions???

5.0 out of 5 stars A Really Neat and Fun Introduction To Interactive Music and Learning
Reviewed in the United States on March 19, 2014
As far as children’s learning games, music is a tough one. This does a great deal of teaching through fun. There are positive reinforcements, good sound design, and overall fun. Children will have a ball learning tunes and playing with the different mini-games. I found myself learning all over again the sounds and different notations for simple music.

There is so much to this, not just learning how to play and interact with music, but tones, and much more. I was having a ball, so much so, that I forgot to get back to work for a few hours. It’s simple enough to pick up and play, and for children, learning music has never been so fun. Even if they just prod around with it, it’ll be a good intro to different musical sounds and simple instrumentation.

I love the cute colors, and the animations. The sound design is very well done, and it's just a ball to interact with. Even on a small device like an entry level smartphone.

Matching is fun, the positive reinforcements are grand, and the sounds are just fun to play around with. Children will definitely love this demo, and afterwards will want to upgrade. The demo has some cool features, and while this is not a hardcore learning option, it’s a good way to get started with instruments and sounds. I loved the cuteness, and fun.

3.0 out of 5 stars Learning 22 Monkey's
Reviewed in the United States on January 7, 2014
It isn't as interactive as it appeared to be. The babies just basically put items in their color appropriate space. I thought it would tell them what the items were, or have them count as they matched colors. It is a good app for them I was just hoping for a little more
