5.0 out of 5 stars Astronomical!
Reviewed in the United States on November 11, 2015
This is definitely the best astronomy app to have on your mobile phone. It beats Sky Map by a long shot and no other app even comes close to those two. Stellarium is great but only on a desktop or laptop so you can take full advantage of that program. Star Walk is very accurate and the layout is completely amazing and easy to use, especially for noobie astronomers like myself. If you are willing to spend a few bucks for a completely awesome app, I would recommend you invest a couple bucks on Star Walk.

1.0 out of 5 stars So now I have what to me is a useless app, and $2
Reviewed in the United States on October 31, 2016
Does not work on Amazon readers.

Downloaded into an Amazon fire HD8, my first app since getting the device. I've used this app on a smartphone before, and was looking forward to getting a larger image of the sky on the HD8. While the star catalog and general info the app presents is OK, and that part works OK, Star Walk's main feature is that you can point it at the sky, and it shows that segment on the screen, so that you can look up all kinds of info about the objects above you.

Not so on the HD8 (or any other fire device I know of). In order for the app to follow where you are pointing, the device has to be equipped with GPS, and the Amazon readers do not have that. At the time of purchase, I did not realize that the reader had no GPS, or that Star Walk needed it to function, that only came to light when I went through a frustrating and lengthy process to make it work.

There was no indication on the Amazon app store that I could see that warned about the limited functionality on the HD. So now I have what to me is a useless app, and $2.99 down the drain, which is not enough to warrant the effort to get the money back, so let them keep it, but I did waste a couple of hours...

Couple that to the nasty surprise that I had to pay an extra $15 dollars for the HD8 just to get rid of pre-loaded obnoxious adds (give me the money or I'll keep annoying you: a silly kind of blackmail, or what?), and I am starting to have trust issues with Amazon. Trust, as in Amazon filtering out unscrupulous businesses and business practices, and generally protecting customers from rip offs is the major factor that binds me to Amazon and makes the site first choice for all kinds of purchases. If all this is an early indication that we are heading toward some new deal I will reconsider that.

4.0 out of 5 stars THE Astronomy app arrives on android
Reviewed in the United States on February 10, 2014
One of the finest apps for IOS finally makes its android debut, albeit with some hiccups. Star walk just oozes quality. The menus and artwork are all beautiful, planets, stars , and nebulae all look gorgeous. The only thing that differs here from the IOS version is that for some reason, that one seems to run smoothly compared to the sometimes laggy android version. I am currently on an HTC one so it's a pretty new phone that should Have no trouble running this app. Overall this is THE premier app for astronomy fans out there, it includes a night mode for stargazing, a star spotter feature that highlights objects in the sky for you, among others. If you've yet to try this app out, please give it a try, the developers are hardworking and are sure to squash any bugs as well as add more features soon.

2.0 out of 5 stars Might want to research it better than i did.

App doesn't work as advertised on my 8" Amazon Fire. I was hoping that it would track the sky as I moved my Fire across the horizon and the screen didn't update at all. I'm guessing the app needs GPS inputs and the Fire doesn't have that capability (I think). What I do know for sure is that it doesn't work on my $89.00 Fire. I'm bummed, looks like a cool app.

5.0 out of 5 stars The only app I've paid for (twice...)
Reviewed in the United States on April 11, 2016
I love this app! I'm wouldn't even say that I'm a devoted amateur astronomer, so I couldn't give an educated assessment of its accuracies and inaccuracies. But I love what it can do, how easy it is to use, and that it tells you much more than simply the names of constellations. To date, it's the only app I've ever paid money for (twice, actually), and it's been worth it. If you don't care much about learning the names, histories, or brightness of stars, nor about various planetary events, perhaps you should stick to Googling stuff you want to know. But this app is perfect for digging a bit deeper into the night sky.
Note: sometimes it has a hard time orientating in the correct position, but I don't much mind.

3.0 out of 5 stars Works great on my Android phone but can't get it to do anything on my Kindle Fire HCX
Reviewed in the United States on April 28, 2014
I'm only giving it three stars because it doesn't work on my Kindle Fire HCX. Works great on my phone though. The reason I bought it for my Kindle Fire was for the larger screen. I knew that out in the boonies I would need to use my phone for a mobile hot spot and I was fine with that. Setting say to go to the built-in maps to calibrate the compass. I don't even know what that means. Instructions don't help if you don't know what they are talking about. I didn't have to do anything like that on my phone. I'm happy with it on my phone, but not on my Kindle Fire HCX. Would have been nice to know it wouldn't work on that before I bought it!!

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent

A great intro app if you are getting into astronomy and dont want to be overwhelmed. It has lots of options and i would recommend turning off the cheesy music and sounds first. Go thru the settings until you get the star chart looking the way you want. This app is nice because it acts more like a reference if you want to look up star facts or see cool images of planets. Can seem bloated but can be dialed down to fit your needs. This is my second best astronomy app with stellarium mobile being the first. Both have red night modes.

1.0 out of 5 stars agree a RIPOFF
Reviewed in the United States on March 1, 2014
Saw the previous ripoff review too late. This does not work on kindle HDX. It should state this in description. As a follow up, I reached out to VITO Customer support hoping it was something I was doing wrong. Their response: Kindle Fire HDX is not equipped with digital compass that is required for the Star Spotter (the feature that allows you to track the sky) to be activated. All other functions should work properly. I bought this app specifically for the ability to track the sky as an aid in teaching my family and friends astronomy.

Amazon, why don't you advertise this limited functionality for the HDX?
