5.0 out of 5 stars Restful water sounds and scenes for a mini-getaway at work.

My job is in a hospital, in an area that can sometimes be stressful. Today, with a special coins-back offer from Amazon, I've downloaded to my Kindle Fire HD, this Stormy Ambience app plus four others from EdgeWay. I like the storm sounds, really restful. And the Snowy Ambience is pretty too. We seldom have snow in Las Vegas, so it's a treat for us.
The plan is to take it on my mandatory clock-in-and-out 30 minute lunches (that by itself can be stressful).
The Kindle will be set maybe as a window on a storm, while I read on my Samsung Note 3 (I download books to the Kindle and GN3 simultaneously so I can continue reading from either).
Today I'm on a short vacation from work, but looking forward to having my little "vacation spot" in a corner of the hospital cafe.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good, except for the thunder.

I do have one minor quibble with this, and that is that the thunder sound is the same exact sound every time, which ruins the natural effect if you're paying too much attention to it. I wish there were several different thunder sounds. The rain sound is good, and there are some nice pictures of some nice places I'd like to be hanging out in. Yes, as some reviewers have already pointed out, the rain animation doesn't look super realistic, but you can't expect much in the way of graphics from Fire TV, since it was designed to show video and play music, with graphics as a secondary function.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you need a little rain in your life...great for relaxation

I live in a place where it almost never rains and gets really hot, so an occasional "rainstorm" is a real blessing. You can set it to where it's all rain, or have occasional thunder sounds to accompany the rain. It has photos of different places in the rain that change every few seconds (you can set that time as well). It has a sleep timer also, which I have found to be really useful. I highly recommend it to anyone who doesn't have enough real rain in their lives.

2.0 out of 5 stars Most Annoying Rain Sound! And only 1 good pic.
Reviewed in the United States on June 10, 2016
Only the first pic is good the rest are okay to just not that good. The biggest problem is the rain noise is so annoying. It's this sploshy sound instead of white noise like rainfall that other apps have. It is annoying instead of peaceful. There's also no ambient music option to help soften the rain noise. If the pics where what they were but the rain was great white noise than I'd say 4 stars because I could just leave it on the wonderful first pic but with the combo this is just a dud.

The two apps I love are Autumn Ambience and Peaceful Snowfall. They are the only ones worth the money at the time of this review. They both have about 20 different scenes that you can toggle through with options to automatically run though them at a set interval or just choose the one you like. All of the pics are great in both of these apps. Plus there is an optional and customizable animation in the front of the pics, leaves for autumn and snow for the Peaceful Snowfall. This slight animation give it a live feeling. There's optional / customizable sound effects and ambient music for both too. The other paid for apps that seemed worth trying and I don't like are Summer Ambience, Snow Ambience TV, Ocean Sunset HD, and Stormy Ambience. You think Summer, Snow, and Stormy Ambience would be in the same boat but they are not.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very soothing

At 70 years old, falling asleep in my chair isn’t unusual. Sometimes I like to turn off the noise of the day and listen to something soothing. This app is great for just that occasion.

4.0 out of 5 stars I like it.

Could be better but for 99 cents its a bargain. It is just still pictures with generated rain superimposed on them . Several different pictures. Several different adjustments to rain sound level, thunder level, speed of picture transition and such are possible. Sound has rain and lightening very well done. Gives you the sense of being there. I could see how this could be background noise for taking a nap. Video with other movement like moving water and wind would have made it better. I'd recommend it for the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Peaceful and refreshing.

I have downloaded numerous m.p.3's of waves pounding , rainstorms, thunder, wind chimes, bird calls....you name it. And I love them. However the visuals on this app really are nice. It's good to see the rain falling as well as hearing it. The different scenes are lovely, and you can program it to how frequently the scenes change.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's raining
Reviewed in the United States on January 25, 2016
With some provided adjust-ability, I was able to dial in a decent balance of weather-affect. My nit isn't with the thunder, it's with the actual "sound" of the rain itself. Rain has a different quality of sound depending on where it's experienced. In a city, the rain drops hit the streets, sidewalks, buildings, and cars, etc. In a deciduous forest, rain has an entirely different sound as it hits the trees, falls on bushes and on Earth. Other sound influences include the strength of rain: is it heavy or light? and other qualities? how close does the rain sound to the ear, how far away? What about the actual recording quality of the rain sample? Is it tinny and hollow or is it big and full ? Unfortunately, it's more of the former to my ear where this app is concerned. Nevertheless, the sounds were decent but only when set to certain scenes, making the affect is relatively convincing.
