Product description

Is your screen too bright for reading at night? Even on it's lowest brightness setting, many people find that the screen can be too bright for reading in a dark room. GSam Screen Dimmer lets you dim the screen way past what the built-in brightness setting of many devices will allow, giving you a much better night reading experience. You can dim your screen without ever leaving the app you are currently running. Better yet, you can see the content on your screen while you dim - no need to launch into separate screens.

NOTE:
• This is optimized for the Kindle Fire. Not all devices will let you dim the screen past the default settings.
• This app was designed with e-readers such as the Kindle Fire in mind, however it will function well on all Android devices, including Phones and Tablets.

1.0 out of 5 stars forgets or ignores settings

App is okay if only it would remember and keep the settings that are programmed.

Pros:
It does allow you to configure settings for morning, night, minimum and maximum brightness, and allows you to choose onset and end times for the settings.

Cons:
It constantly keeps brightening suddenly without prompting and the effect on the eyes is harsh, just like suddenly turning on bright lights when you've been sitting in the dark for a while. This to me negates the whole point of purchasing the app.

Other suggestions:
When it does work as configured, it would be nice if it had a feature that allows the user to choose to slowly undim.

5.0 out of 5 stars Does what the kindle should do

I love my Kindle Fire, but one of the few issues I had was that the dimmer bar doesn't make the screen dim enough to read in bed. This app fixes this by enabling you to select a dimmer screen setting than is normally permitted by the brightness slider. You get an additional icon in the notification area (top left menu) which allows a quick change of brightness. Simple and effective.

I hope the Fire gets its built in dimmer lowered, but in the meantime this is worth having.

Suggestion to author: add a "switch to day" setting, or other timer settings so in the morning it automatically goes back to a chosen brighter setting. one less thing to press then.

3.0 out of 5 stars Problems with other apps.

Does what it says it does, but interfere's with other apps, that have a swipe and dim feature. Over all is an OK app. When this app. first opened, I found it confusing as it configured itself asking questions that I really was unsure about what it was talking about. If you use your Kindle in bright daylight or in the dark it configures to that amount of light. I would have been happier with a simple dimmer switch, that I could configure to my own needs.

2.0 out of 5 stars What happened?
Reviewed in the United States on May 29, 2012
So...I've. used this dimmer a lot, but had to stop using it for a while. Long story. I reinstall it, start to use it on the lowest setting like I used to but the screen blacks out, making my Kindle useless. What happened? Its a screen dimmer, its not supposed to make my screen blackout. I had to restart my Kindle several times and remove the app to get my Kindle to work correctly. For that, I'm only giving it 2 stars instead of a 5 I'd. normally give it. Please fix that issue, and I wont have a problem.

4.0 out of 5 stars Use it all the time

Works great. It calibrates your screen to figure out exactly how dim it will go before the kindle goes black and shuts off. The setting it comes up with is then refered to as the minimum brightness. Mine is 0.4% which is quite a bit dimmer than the standard Kindle lowest setting.

GSam allows you to program 4 settings that you can futher program to automate them. For instance, morning, afternoon, evening and night. At 6 am, you can have it at 20% and then when it hits 12pm, it will automatically brighten to 100% if that is what you set it for.

Only downside I have found it that it sometimes blinks out of the program. When reading a book at night on the lowest setting, suddenly I would get a face full of 100% which I have to pull up the program to dim back down. The actual settings are still in place, so I do not need to change it. For some reason, just tapping on the app bar for GSam kicks it back down. Weird, but tolerable.

I wish it would go dimmer though as the browser backgrounds are white and still pretty bright!

1.0 out of 5 stars Barely makes a difference
Reviewed in the United States on April 12, 2012
The Badass Screen Dimmer is not badass. It barely makes a noticeable difference. When my Kindle Fire is at the lowest factory setting, the Badass Screen Dimmer slightly mutes it. I was looking for a more noticeable difference. I was looking for a dimmer that would allow me to read in the dark without distrubing my husband. I have not found it in this app.

5.0 out of 5 stars omg finally!! my eyes say thank you!

I expected to see tons of previous reviews showering this app in positivity! The only other screen dimmer application in the Aneroid Market was ScreenDim, which ironically does have tons of reassuring reviews....nevertheless, Badass. Screen Dimmer is the screen dimming application that Deserves all those positive reviews. Not only is the interface design MUCH more "user friendly", being that there are actual labels instead of just icons, but there are more applicable options, and not to mention:
The Badass Screen Dimmer application has surpassed the programming "skills" of the ScreenDim developer(s) by far, and it is immediately obvious. Not only is it better in its presentation, organization/hierarchy & options, but it stands out to me because its buttons actually EXECUTE the desired effect!

I had purchased ScreenDim first, the app has not only a meagerly supply of options, but also poorly designed, no direction - just icons, in assumption that every one of its audience members will understand anyway- ...

BUT... in the midst of all those ScreenDim reviews singing and chanting its praise, I had decided to skip their free trial version of the app, and went on to pay for their full version right away, ASSuming I couldn't go wrong-not with a rating of 5 stars and so many good reviews.....
Right?
...Wrong....

After ScreenDim had finished installing, I clicked to open it, was greeted by a teacher's definition of a less than satisfactory program interface design, that was extremely plain, and as I had previously mentioned, no direction accompanied barely by any menu/settings options...
Even so, I made my desired changes, all the while expecting some kind of a Photoshop Filter "preview" effect, which would display the settings changes as I made them - so as to see/watch those changes in screen brightness grow or dissipate as one would slide the radio button around to different brightness percentages ....

HOWEVER ....
Nothing happened at all. I work with Troubleshooting almost every single day, and I must declare :
The ScreenDim "application", (I would consider it more of looking like a first failed attempt at an assignment ... but it is what it is), as far as Kindle Fire is concerned, don't waste your time or money on ScreenDim, blindly following the words of the masses has never proved to be a positive thing in history really, but from this Road Less Traveled, I can guarentee the validity of the statement, "You cant judge a book by its cover", (or its reviews), in the case of this wonderful, FUNCTIONING screen dimmer application, your bet is best placed with this Badass Screen Dimmer (Kindle Fire Edition) app.

Judge and opinionate as you wish, but I Rarely, if ever, devote the time, especially this amount of time, in even leaving a review, regardless of whether it be positive and/or negative. If I did happen to go out of my way to write a review for apps ive used in the past, no review would ever tend to extend past a quick 5 word affirmation ....
