5.0 out of 5 stars This App Made Me Appreciate Writing in a Dream Journal Again
Reviewed in the United States on June 30, 2015
I was deciding between two dream journal apps, and ultimately I chose this one because of its recording function. But I’ll talk about that in a second…

You wake up in the middle of the night, and it is minutes til your alarm clock will actually go off. You don’t have time to type up the strange dream about your robot putting together a bouquet and speaking to you in German and then Italian. So what do you do? You tap the microphone icon at the upper right-hand corner of dreamPad Dream Journal / Diary with Audio screen and after a couple of seconds, you speak into the microphone of your Kindle Fire tablet stating the date, the time, and begin describing the details of your story…

I love this dream journal app! DreamPad Dream Journal / Diary with Audio is a practical way to write down your dreams as soon as you sit up in the morning or the middle of the night. Had a strange dream during a daytime nap? It’s useful for that too!

- The “+” icon lets you begin a new dream journal entry in an instant. Tap on the entry thumbnail to open the dream
-This app has Light and Dark themes. Just toggle by tapping “Theme” on the options menu
-You may sort out the dream journal entries by dream type, by search, by color
-The search function (provided by the magnifying glass icon) allows you to search for entries that contain the keyword you’re searching for. If you just want to look for a few of the same type of dream, for example, tap the label tag icon to the right of the magnifying glass, and you can limit the results by dream type, audio, and dates at most recent or least recent on top. If you have, say, 50 dreams recorded or written into the app, you can limit the number that shows up at a time, so you don’t have to keep scrolling and scrolling down.
-Questions/advanced fields for putting in details such as characters and setting; choose color if you’d like to color-code
-Label your dream with a primary and a secondary dream type
-Share function is found in the opened dream note in the options menu.
-When you open a dream journal entry, it is automatically locked so you don’t unintentionally edit your dream journal entry. Tap the lock icon to enable editing mode.

Read this far? Great! Here’s an extra tip on getting more out of dreamPad Dream Journal / Diary with Audio:

If you wake up in the early morning, or the middle of the night, and don’t’ have the confidence that you’ll remember everything as you’re typing your dream into the app, you can use the recording function to speak your dream description into your device. Just tap the microphone icon at the top right-hand corner of the screen and a new dream journal entry will start right away. After a couple of seconds pass, you can audio-record your dream notes, and return to writing the details of the journal entry later. Be sure to dictate the date and time in the beginning of the entry so you can know the first day you started the dream note. When you share the dream to your email, there is a reminder to “rename the .mpx file into .mp3 to play as audio,” so you can save and listen to the audio notes into whichever device you’d like.

I have to give a warning: the one hiccup that this app currently has is that if you were to share the dream entry by email, the emotion is always wrong. For example, I put Surprised, and it changed it to Anger. If you can, go to where the emotion is noted in the email draft and type in the appropriate emotion for your dream note.

I give dreamPad Dream Journal / Diary with Audio 5 stars because it made me appreciate writing down dreams again. It has everything I’d like in a dream journal app and more. The recording function really comes in handy. I think if the emotion-switch problem is fixed, it will be perfect, but, it doesn’t hinder the app in a huge way, not to me anyway.

This is just my personal suggestion: You could record/write down the approximate time you woke up from your dream so that you have a better chance adding more notes. Whether it was a night dream or a daytime nap dream, it may help to add that detail too. You could record your mood in the “Feelings” field in the Advanced Fields of your dream note.

I highly recommend dreamPad Dream Journal / Diary with Audio for your mobile dream journal needs. The recording function within the app alone is worth trying. Plus it includes the advanced detail fields, light/dark themes, and the email-share function. This is for anyone: whether you’ve kept a dream journal, or did and stopped, or never did and will get started with this, you’d be surprised how it may improve your dream journal habits, skills, and appreciation.

4.0 out of 5 stars A nice dream journal

I was using a pen and paper dream diary to log my dreams. This techniques helps me a lot on the recollection of dreams. However, I would often skip a dream just because I was too tired to get off bed. And writing upside down is not for me. So I thought of using my phone for this purpose instead.

The free version of this app was my first choice until I filled up my quota of four dreams. So I paid the outrageos price of $1 for the full version.

However, this app has a few issues. For once, the font size is small on either portrait or landscape mode and font size is not selectable. But if I write in landscape mode the font in the text entry block is bigger.

Other than that, adding a dream log is relatively easy. I tap on the intro window, then on the +Dream option.

For dreams, this app allows me to archive them with the following text fields:

- Title
- Date
- Storyline
- Dreamtype (primary and secondary)
- Advance Fields

For some reason, tapping into the storyline was much easy, but not so much on the title. However, once I get the storyline in and select a dreamtype, I can easily add a title at a later time. I could also change in case I'm adding a dream to an earlier date.

The Dreamtype allows me to tag a dream as Normal, Vivid, Lucid, Nightmare... There are more tags to select from and I can allocated up to two of these to a single dream. However, I must admit I would like to have some other specific tags, which I can not do since these are not editable.

If I need more key words to associate with my dreams, I use the Advanced Fields. There, I can add notes on the following:

- Setting
- Characters
- Feelings
- Pre-dream Exercise
- Lucidity
- Interpretation

Once I have entered a dream into my journal, I can sort them by accending or decending dates, filter them by tag, select audio, or limit the number of results from the main window. I can also search specific key words on my dreams, and this search works on the Advanced Fields as well.

Overall, this is a good app at a great price. It just need a few updates to make it great.

This app is ideal for people who want to remember their dreams with minimal hassle. It lets you record your dreams in detail and even enter this like moods and interpretations of dreams. The pro version comes at a very reasonable price considering its value as a very possible your guide into the world of lucid dreaming.
