I've been a Dream Theater fan for a while now. When I heard that one of Jordan Rudess's apps was available for Android, I got it without a second thought. I'm not even a pianist, but I could still easily figure this app out. It's great for making a whole variety of sounds that really accompany music very well. I'm a musician, so I had some expectations for this app. It definitely came through for me. It's designed to let you only hit notes in a particular key for a particular scale or mode. Basically what this means is, it makes it difficult to hit a "wrong" or out-of-key note. This, however, is not as restrictive as it may sound. inside the app's only menu, you have a scrolling list of pre-set scales and modes to choose from. You are still not limited to those modes, as you can easily manipulate the individual notes, deciding if you want them displayed and choosing other ones as you see fit. This system basically means that you can play any note at any octave.

The app, however is not completely perfect. First of all, I found a bug in it that holds a note if you are simultaneously playing it and changing the orientation of the screen. The only way to silence the note is to restart the app. Second of all, the app here is not quite the same as the original iOS version of MorphWiz, which has more patches and options. While limited in comparison, it's still a powerful app for music writing or playing as well as hours of entertainment. My last rant is this: The Android device you use this app on has to be on the stronger side in processing speed and power, because there is a slight bit of latency between hitting the note and the device registering it.

Cool touch-synth for Android

This synth is pretty neat, and probably worth the price. The customizable scale, rounding options are great. The animated backgrounds are pretty cool, and the different sounds it produces are varied enough to be interesting; I mostly like sine/flute varieties. It supports two notes simultaneously (2-note-polyphonic) and bending them independently sounds pretty sweet.

Two issues:

1. There is a brief but perceivable delay, which is the major downfall with most music apps I have seen. I don't have any experience with OSX/iOS, but on Windows you need special low-latency APIs such as ASIO for good live playback. I'm guessing Android may simply not support low-latency audio. This isn't a deal-breaker for me; at slower tempo it's usable and still fun, but maybe not useful musically.
2. The expression on the Y-axis is there but extremely subtle. (I think it is morphing the base waveform?) How about some more options? The obvious choice would be a filter sweep (think of opening/closing your mouth or a guitar wah pedal), or maybe volume swell, vibrato, etc. Would really spice up the app if you ask me.

Hangs Every time. But I have this app on my iPad... It's great! Kevin hello? Sigh, updated review. Kevin is the genius that created this app together with Jordan on the Apple version I think. It is so wonderful and expressive and it is an entry-level app to the Rudess Family of incredible instruments. Jordan is somehow tapping into a layer of creativity and sounds that you really can't get anywhere else except for these flatscreen apps I know it sounds weird that a simple 'multiconnect ribbon controller' could be an entire instrument but there you are.

Like the game of Othello, a moment to learn and a lifetime to master, Work your way up to geosynth and beyond, This is the gateway instrument the first one and I recommend it to everyone I just don't see it anywhere… It's sad because it's really good.
I love Orphion, Bastus Trump is a guru of subtlety, But the Jordan-Kevin combination seems to be the guru of gurus.

Fix it, and play on. There is a new free version which works quite well but you really want Hendrix wiz, trust me.

We just downloaded this and it ended up.getting stuck where a note kept repeating and even closing out the app.continued play we couldn't figure out how to turn it off and had to uninstall and reinstall. We are using a Kindle Fire HD.

this is a seriously awesome spp. i haven't figured it all out yet, but just messing around with the presets is tons of fun. kind of theremin-like except more differentiation between notes. the visuals are awesome & go great with the sounds. and this is the first app to get the attention of my cats. one of the presets sounds sort of like cheerful, singing meows. the cats were like "WHAT!?!?" definitely worth the $2. i'm surprised more people haven't discovered this app.

Good music apps are few and far between for the Kindle Fire. Morphwiz however has proven to be a diamond in the rough. Very playable and great sounding. It is very easy to start making good sounding music right from the start. For the price of just a cup of coffee you could have a wildly unique performance synth with the same characteristics as many synths costing much much more. I will most certainly be using this app on my future music projects. The Andriod and the Kindle Fire need more apps like this. Spread the word...
