Since the release of the Kindle Fire it has been missing one vital application, a proper video player. The "gallery" viewer that comes with it is woefully inadequate for watching your own movie files. It doesn't show the name of the video file you're selecting, so you're left guessing which video you're about to watch. Once you have found the right video, there's no way to adjust the brightness of the screen of the volume without either exiting the video to change brightness, or bringing up the menu bar to change the volume.
Now at last we have a proper movie browser and video player! It lets to assign your own images to your videos, so when you're browsing them you know what they are. I like to use the posters for the movie because it looks nice when you flip through them. MovieGallery can also create its own images by taking a snapshot of the video. This also works well, as it tells you the name of the file above the image so you can still find the video you are looking for.
When it comes to playing videos, things are as you would expect. It has on screen controls for volume and brightness which is perfect. You have a time slider for moving through the video quickly and buttons for moving to the next video or back a video. There are even options for zooming in on the video or stretching it to make it fit the screen.
Speaking of which, there are two other pieces of software that you might want to try made by "tools4movies" that are PC (Windows) based. The first is software that turns your videos and DVD's and Blu-ray's into videos that fit the screen of the Kindle Fire perfectly. I've not seen any video encoders that can do this before. The second is a small piece of software that can stream video files that you have created from your PC to your Kindle Fire, so long as you are on the same network. This is great because it gets around the small storage space on the Kindle Fire by allowing you to store videos on your PC. Support for doing this is built into MovieGallery and again I haven't seen something like this offered by anything else before. You can find both of these by googling the name of the developer.
So to sum up, for $2, you get the only video player for the Kindle Fire which looks nice and allows you to play videos which are stored on your Kindle Fire. As well as this with a small amount of fiddling you can watch videos which are stored on your PC! I've been waiting since the release of the Kindle Fire for a proper video player, and now I have one which offers even more than I had hoped.
Highly recommended.
