I traded in all my gaming books long ago, when new versions kept coming out. Since then, I relied on borrowing books from the DM for whatever system we were playing at the time, but I always missed having a reference around...especially when it came time to level up. I loaded this dandy little character generator on my Kindle Fire, and coupled with pazio's Pathfinder web reference, I'm good to go.
What it does:
You plug in the basic stats, feats, even weapons, and it puts the formula together to generate the final numbers.
THEN it's a dice roller for whatever stat you are using...right dice, adds bonuses, even brings up new dice to roll when you crit.
The notes section is fantastic for all those little adventure details that can get forgotten.
Experience points will tell you when its time to level up. Do so and the pertinent class stats will be automatically added as well as give you new skill and feat points to spend.
Descriptions for any skill, feat or stat is only a tap away.
I love the editable equipment list (careful, it has item weights!)
What it doesn't do:
Does not automatically add armor or equipment bonuses to stats, so be forewarned to keep track of it yourself.
Does not have a full or updatable spell list, so print your own.
Does not roll for spell attacks, so don't get rid of your dice just yet.
Does not have Traits (Pathfinder), so you'll have to add those numbers manually.
For the few bonuses it doesn't automatically add, you can work around it by manually adding to your numbers through the "Misc" interface for whatever stat you need and it will add that number to the dice roller. Bit of a pest, but other than that its a great program to keep things simple and in one place. I need no books, and I can keep track of multiple characters for both D&D and Pathfinder, I love it!
