Photography is not about cameras, gadgets, and gizmos. A camera didn't make a great picture any more than a typewriter wrote a great novel. - Peter Adams

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful way to learn DSLR photography basics.
Reviewed in the United States on April 26, 2015
So far I love this app. It helps that I am trying to learn how to better use my DSLR to get good pictures and not just lucky pictures.

What I like about this app.
1. It does a superb job of breaking up the learning into smaller bits which are explained with words and excellent pictures, some of which are interactive.
2. The explanations are well done and easy for me. I am a computer graybeard and not a photographer.
3. There are suitable references to different brands of cameras such as Canon, Nikon, and Sony.
4. There are quizzes at suitable points to help you cement new knowledge.

I have only one complaint about this app. When, not if, I have to leave it, it does not remember the page I was on such that when I come back to it I have to start the section I was in from the beginning.

The DOF table is useful, but the other "tutorials" are not nearly as good as the millions of youtube videos out there explaining similar topics. Also, the EV table is very good, but it would be nice if there were an interactive aspect to the app where you could get an EV reading or that could meter the light in the scene using the device camera. That would make it spectacularly useful. Pretty ok, hope the developer made a few bucks on it. I got it for free.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome app. Very, very informative.
Reviewed in the United States on December 10, 2014
This app is filled with a vast amount of information in relation to photography and the rule of three: Aperture, shutter speed and iso. The app has a great technique for teaching you the meaning of each setting in your camera as well as how it functions in general.

I was pleasantly surprised how well the app was put together, as well as how informal it was. I was most definitely NOT expecting a premium grade photography educational app, but that's what I got.

I highly recommend this to anyone in the photography field, as it can help improve your skills as well as understanding of how the cameras function.

4.0 out of 5 stars OK as a Primer on DSLR
Reviewed in the United States on November 5, 2014
This is like a copy of Digital SLR Photography All-in-One Dummies. It is targeted for owners of digital cameras and, while the complete novice might still find some useful info here, if you only shoot with your phone/tablet you will find some of the info irrelevant. At $3.50 It is cheaper than a printed book, yes, and has a few tools like DoF Calculator & EV Table as well as a quiz, but then you could get everything in this app by visiting some free photography-related websites. If you are truly serious with your DSLR camera, you would have to look elsewhere for more in-depth discussion or focus on a particular topic. You might also want to purchase a more comprehensive app like the Light Meter Tools as well.

For what it's worth I guess it's OK, although I wouldn't agree it's a great bargain nor a superb eye-opener. I am annoyed with its constant attempts to send data to Flurry, but at least it runs just fine offline.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT APP!!
Reviewed in the United States on April 20, 2019
I was given a DSLR as a gift a few years ago and I was loving it, but I felt after a couple of years of shooting mostly in auto that I wasn't getting the most out of my camera as I should.
Looking for books to read on my Kindle fire, this app popped up as a suggestion.
This was the best purchase I made. Bite size chunks of info and lessons, quick and easy to take in and apply right outside in the real world.
I hope whoever created this wonderful app has more coming!

3.0 out of 5 stars It's like an interactive slide presentation that's not made for high end devices
Reviewed in the United States on December 13, 2014
The information in it is nice and concise, but some things don't scale well for high resolution devices so the presentation isn't always top notch considering the price it's asking for it. It's one of those apps that you could take screenshots of each section and then delete the app so it's not taking up space on your internal memory. The only thing you'd be missing out on are the quizzes built into the app.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible app - full of misinformation
Reviewed in the United States on November 5, 2014
This is a terrible app. Clunky interface, does not register touches for drop-downs, uses a slider for distance in the dof calculator, and skips focal lengths.

Moreover, the author seems to buy into the lie that sensor size is the most important factor in image quality. This is just blatantly not true. Smaller and larger sensors have differences, with advantages and drawbacks.

DO NOT TAKE THIS APP SERIOUS. For every good point, there is yet another typical myth that is propagated on forums by uninformed photographers who do not know the science and math of photography.

5.0 out of 5 stars You can learn a lot about Photography with this app. Is great for the beginner and explains terms in an easy to understand way.
Reviewed in the United States on March 22, 2015
This is Great. I haven't finished the whole course yet, but had to write this review. It is awesome. It goes over the basics and lets you know the correct terminology so that you sound intelligent when talking to another photographer in addition, of course, to learning about what does what. Simple things like "fixed lens" or "telephoto lens" are not so obvious to someone like myself who is new to photography. This is Well worth your time, and money. I give this a 5 Star and 2 Thumbs Up. I Recommend This.
