So, my sister's who normally watch Mom were going on a trip... We'd bought a baby monitor for when we took care of Dad and couldn't find it. Mom is 86 but still quite independent. Still, I was hoping to be able to keep an eye on Mom without having to spend the night at her house and didn't really want to pay $50 or more for another security camera...
So far so good! I used Daddy's fire tablet and my fire tablet as cameras and my Moto G phone as a monitor. The advantage of using this versus just using Velcro to stick up a battery operated Ring or Blink doorbell, for example, besides the cheaper cost, is that you get a 24/7 live feed. With Ring, you have to have a subscription because videos are housed in the cloud. With Blink, you can use an SD Card, but you have to buy a Sync Module 2, as a kind of hub. And with both, you are restricted on the amount of time you can operate the cameras as an extended live view. Blurams cameras are good, but you have to be willing to trust the CCP.
With this app, I originally used an old Android phone as the camera. It did well, after setup, but you have to figure out how to keep your screen from timing out. That wasn't a problem, at all, using the fire tablets, but I had to put the old phone in Developer Mode to tweak that, which took a long time. Good news is, this app is compatible with most of my devices, so I can download it on multiple devices. You basically buy the license, either Apple or Android products, or both, so I bought it once for Android and it works on my phone and Amazon products. Bought it once for iPad.
Unlike another reviewer mentioned, I am able to get notifications on my phone when the fire tablets detect motion. Sadly, if the app detects Mom playing a hymn or making persimmon pudding, it won't save that clip for me, but if it notifies me of motion that turns out to be a fall, it could save Mom's life.
Worth every penny, imo. I've also used it for monitoring my FIV cat. Just keep in mind you're not going to be able to track motion, so choose your monitor placement carefully.
My only complaint is the feedback I keep getting from the speaker when I try to talk with Mom. Still working on that, but it might help to close out all other feeds when trying to talk over just one of them.
