Bought this for my 14 year old daughter and she loves it. A lot of fun to do, and the finished product is beautiful. I will be purchasing more in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars perfect from beginning to end

I loved-loved doing this lion. As art scrapers know, some of the pictures you receive to scrape simple do not scrape right. The material does not scrape well. You have to press harder and cannot do the fines lines and small detail that make your picture come alive. But with this one, the scraping was a pleasure, perfect from beginning to end.

I took this to work so I could have something to help me stay awake and distract on a graveyard shift. It took a shift to finish and it was so fun. I will be buying more.

I really enjoy the foil pictures. wish certain images came in a choice of options such as silver or gold or copper or other. This pic would be terrific in silver.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lots of work but I am pleased with the result

Lots of work but I am pleased with the result.

I subtracted 1 star because the medium that is used to blackout the piece seems to be inconsistent as far as application is concerned.

What I mean by this is, part of the piece has one thickness of coating where other parts of the piece have a thinner coating. The difference in thickness is not obvious so at the moment of scraping, you find that you may have to adjust the amount of pressure or adjust the angle of the tool so that you do not scrape too much, resulting in exposing white paper or so that the tool doesn't just seem to skim over the brownish red lines of the design, requiring several scrapes just to get to the foil.

This is my second piece that I have completed. The first piece I did was the Wolf by Reeves.

I mention this because the Wolf (silver foil) project used a completely different type of black medium. The texture of the black medium for the wolf was more like butyl or clay. The black medium for the Tiger was much more brittle. Kind of like scraping dried liquid whiteout off of smooth surface. With the provided tool, scrapes are easy but the result is not a very clean line and the black medium seems to "flake" off at times.

With experience you learn to use difference angles of the tool and adjust pressure to get the best result.

I also switched between the tool that came with the wolf and the tool that came with the tiger.

Look at the image of the two tools that I uploaded. The tool that came with the wolf comes to a point, With the tiger, I used the wolf's tool to do the fine, detailed lines. I used the tool that came with the tiger for the larger areas.

Honestly, it would have been nice if Reeve's included the sharp and broad tool or at least one handle and both tips.

Speaking of tips:

Tip 1
Get a art portfolio to protect your project. These foil boards are very delicate and are very susceptible to finger prints and unintentional scratches

This is the one I got. It is not cheap but was perfect for my use:

Tip 2
Get a natural hair brush that can be used for drafting or sketching. You never want to use your hand to swipe away the scrape shavings. This will deposit oil from your hand onto your project and create large deposits that make the project look "muddy" and difficult to see the brownish red design.

Tip 3
Use a clean white sheet of paper, fold it in half and always use this to rest your hand on when you are doing your scrapes. This is to help avoid depositing oil from your hand and "smearing" your project. Change the paper often.

Tip 4
Take your time!!!!!! Do not try and do it in one day or "15 hours" or any set amount of time. Get in a comfortable position and take a deep breath before you start scraping. Move away from the project to scratch an itch or whatever ;o) It is a fun project but becomes tedious and a chore when you are not in the mood for scraping. This is sure to reduce the quality of your project.

Tip 5
Use some sort of gloves when handling your project to minimize finger prints. I did not do this but I wish I did and will for my next project.

That is all of the tips that I can think of for now!

Love this! Very time consuming but worth it (I'm not sure how many hours other people took but mine was 15 hrs all together.). I figure it all up and I spent a total of $18 to get the kit/nice frame. I found the Reeves brand to be the best for these projects :)
