It's notoriously difficult to do art on wood, especially wood that is "finished" and has a preexisting varnish. The last thing that I wanted to do, was to have to take off the existing varnish on the wood, so needed an art medium that would work on finished wood, and have a smooth and lasting application.
✅ VIBRANT: I was initially worried that I would have an issue with opacity, which had been an constant issue with multiple other mediums. However, I was surprised to discover that these paints are very opaque! I had to be careful to not layer too much, and stick with fast, light, strokes as to not build up the paint so thick that it would create a physical texture. But all the colors are true to what they claim, and even the lightest colors like yellow and white, apply very solid and dense. I absolutely love that about these pens!
✅ SMOOTH APPLICATION: I noticed right away that the nibs on these markers is slightly different than what I had usually seen in paint pens, especially acrylic. Other pend have felt and rather fuzzy nibs, but these nibs are similar to a dense sponge and also hold their form. The smaller end of the pens with the fine nibs, remain sharp, even after pressing rather hard on them. The other end allows for different width of strokes and stays smooth with the roundness. I had no issues with skipping, or drying out and caking around the nib, which was a huge plus!
✅ FAST DRYING: After application, even when applying multiple layers, the paint dried extremely quickly. This is super beneficial, especially when I worked on different areas of the piece at a single time. which I did. I still used a buffering sheet under my hand just to make sure i didn't smear or transfer any colors from one area to another. But the paint seemingly dried totally to the touch, in less than a single minute.
❌ NO AGITATOR AND LIMITED PAINT IN EACH PEN: The only negative that comes to mind, and this is likely me just being nit-picky, is that there is no internal agitator inside the pens. When shaking paint pens, usually there is an internal piece that shakes back and forth inside the pen that keeps the ink mixed and shakes it up, keeping it from settling and sticking inside of the pen. In these pens, it is non-existent. Because of this, I'm also apprehensive about how much paint each pen contains. I was able to use the red and orange pens in multiple pieces, that range anywhere from 12" inches in height to 9"0" inches in width, and not once, did the pen skip or feel like it was drying out. However, the red and orange pens, now, do feel a good bit lighter than the rest of the colors. So, I would prefer the pens to be a little thicker and contain a lot more paint in each pen.
✴ OVERALL RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ FIVE STARS ————————————————♡
》》》 IN SUMMARY: In general, I was pleasantly surprised by these paint pens. I've used some very expensive, and professional name brand pens before, and these are almost parallel to those. The application is smooth, the colors are solid, vibrant, and opaque, even after dry. They layer nicely, and don't smear into one another, as long as you keep a light hand. They're beautiful and the assortment of colors is wonderful. I just wish there was MORE paint in each pen. ♡
