Cute, fun, easy to use, a bit sticky though

These are a cool craft item from memory lane. Simple to twist and stick together to make any shape imaginable. No noise. Very Versatile. Decent price for what it is. Pretty fun. Young and old alike will enjoy these.

I would not recommend for younger than 3 because they could be swallowed. So for safety avoid that scenario. As for older folks, my mom has Dementia and these work great. She made a little stick man.

The only drawback is the sticky or tackiness of the product. Might want to wash hands after using.

However other than that, these are pretty great.

We are those parents… we don’t give our kids phones or iPads because we expect them to be civilized humans and learn how to deal with boredom. Gasp. We love these for family dinners and for travel. Kids can make endless fun things and constantly recreate. Amazing what happens when they use their imagination.

Great value, tons of fun and don’t take up much space. Our family fave.

A friend introduced us to these out to dinner one night. She kept them in her purse to distract the kids where ever they find themselves. My three-year-old was instantly hooked. I immediately bought these for a trip we had after seeing how she took to them. She played with them on the plane for a solid 30-45 minutes. You can easily mold them and twist them to make all k ends of creations. I did have to toss the ones she dropped on the floor as dirt and grim did stick to them.

I bought this item as a distraction for visiting grandchildren, ages 2 and 4. The package has 2 waxed paper strips, 12 each, stuck down by color. After stripping off the waxed pieces they lost interest. The 4 yo was able to twist 2 colors together, but the 2 yo wasn’t interested at all. I bought the cheapest version I could find,, and now I’m certain they are too expensive for what they are, from the small counts to the large, all brands. They did not sustain the interest of my grandchildren.

I did assess them myself to see if they stick as stated. They stuck to others and to hard surfaces, but they are not substantial enough to form shapes, even for kids a bit older.. One more observation: If dropped on the floor, especially carpet, these slightly sticky pieces will collect household dust, and eventually stop sticking altogether.

I would not expect most 2–5-year-olds to make creative projects from these without guidance. However, if you show them something you assemble, most children will attempt to copy it, rather than create their own. No creativity in that. Still, there might be some fine motor skills benefit.

I suggest you stick with molding clays at this age. A better sensory experience, IMO, and even a 2-year-old can manipulate clay.

Update 11-14-2021 I returned these. After my original review, I realized it would be significantly cheaper to use chenille stems (AKA pipe cleaners) because the sticky feature does not add much to bendy stems, IMO. Besides, pipe cleaners are very useful for cleaning in tiny spaces, like between baseboard radiator fins, and fishing out black gunk from your sink drains. (I do like versatile products.) Look for something like the link. You could even brush them with non-toxic white school glue if you really wanted to add stickiness. Or solidify finished projects by brushing it on.

I grew up with these. I had forgotten all about them. So glad to find them. The kids absolutely loved them. Let’s their imagination go wild. They designed and created for hours. No mess and can easily fit in a bag to bring along somewhere. Definitely a new staple in our household.
