5.0 out of 5 stars Great alternative to regular paint!

These paint markers are amazing! I bought these to use at class parties to decorate gingerbread houses made from cardboard. The colors were vibrant and last all a long time. The two different sizes are great for different projects. I’ve had them for almost 10 months and have been able to use them for several class activities. They are easy to write with as well as color. Best part? No mess that regular paint with brushes can make which resulted with a happy teacher and kids!!

5.0 out of 5 stars So easy to use with good color choices.

I'm working on a large painted wooden ornament project. Although, I enjoy using acrylic paints, I love that I can do more details with the acrylic pens that have a fine tip and a flexible, rounded dot nib. Outlining and tiny details are accurately done with the fine tip. The colors are bold and bright. Mistakes are easily covered, even with white. The gold and silver are sparkly and stand out as accents. The paint dries quickly. One thing I haven't been able to do is mix my own colors as I can with the paints. The pens cut the time to decorate in half. Great buy - this is my second box.

5.0 out of 5 stars A dream come true for an artist

Wow, what fun they are! Way better than expected! The colors are truly vibrant, not some ''wanna-be'' peppy, but actually on their last breath!

I've been using them every day. Painting with these markers is so easy and effective, that it puts me in a state of ''flow'' and relaxations, that the minutes, and sometimes hours just past by without me noticing.

I even used them on one of my recent works that was shown in an art exhibition (photo enclosed), because of the marvelous, deeply saturated colors.

4.0 out of 5 stars 99.5% as good as a brand costing 2x as much

We've now purchased 2 brands of acrylic paint pens this summer... these (Betem) and Posca (made in Japan, not China). They've been a huge hit! Originally for the kids to paint lake rocks as much as their hearts desired, adults wander by and sit with the kids, using the markers almost as much! It also creates an easy kids-adults interaction environment. So all in all, great!! Betems had more colors and were cheaper, and feature dual tips -- broad at one end, fine at the other. This tracks with their recommendation that they be stored horizontally, not vertically. The dual tips weren't as much of a huge selling point over the Poscas as you might think, because the Poscas can do broad or fine depending on pressure and angle at which you hold the pen. But for kids, that and the greater number of colors was a plus. We did find one small issue with this brand (Betem) -- they say they work on glass, but our experience has been that they absolutely do not. The Posca pens do (let the paint cure overnight at least), but we found Betem do not even write on glass. So if you're decorating a wine glass or such, we can’t recommend this brand for that. Other than that, though, both brands were a big hit. Last comment -- these make for a good rainy day activity as well, but you might want to put down paper or such first. We created acrylic paint spots and smears on a picnic table and deck, which isn't a big deal in that kid-oriented outside area, but it's a consideration for some locations.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than Poscas (updated)

Dare I say these are better than Posca Pens?!?! To be honest, when I bought these I had really low expectations, but some of my Poscas were starting to run a little bit dry and I was centering multiple art projects around paint markers. Also, pretty much all of my Poscas are the 3m ones but I was looking for a little more variation for the small details and really large areas. Anyways, so I settled on these and I was so pleasantly surprised. These are all on mixed media paper and there is practically to pilling with these compared to the Poscas (which is one of the big downsides of Poscas). I would also say they have pretty much the exact same opacity, these may even be slightly better. I think my only complaint with these would be that they don't come in a hundred other colors... although that's probably good as far as my wallet is concerned.

(Update):
So I wrote this review after only using these for a day. Now it’s been about a week. I still stand by everything that I said in my original review but I have experienced one slight inconvenience. Because these are acrylic paint pens and not water based, the tips can dry out and basically stop working. I had this problem the second day I used them with the white marker and I was really annoyed about it, thinking I had just spent all this money on something that wasn’t going to last. I eventually figure out how to fix it though. If you just take out the tip (may be a little difficult but they do come out) and run it under water until you can get as much paint out as possible. Then if there is still a bit of a clog I would let it soak in nail polish remover for about a minute and then rinse it out again. Then just put the tip back into the pen and and wait for the paint to re-soak into it. If it’s been in there for a while and paint still isn’t reaching the tip then get the very tip wet again and the paint should flow through it again. I’ve had this problem 2 other times so far (with both the fine tip and larger tip) and this method has worked perfectly with all of them and they are all usable again. This is a bit of an inconvenience but if you are opting for an acrylic paint marker over a water based marker like Poscas, this is most likely going to happen at some point. There are upsides to the acrylic though… being that they aren’t water soluble so they aren’t going to be reactivated when you layer them up or go over it with a different media.

All things considered, I would still highly recommend these. I think the opacity is amazing, they aren’t streaky and they don’t really make paper pill up the way most paint pens do. Not to mention the double ends are super convenient for fine details and large spaces. The dried tips can be annoying but isn't out of the ordinary for acrylic markers, and is fixable most of the time. Overall they’re very good especially for the price, and I would purchase them again.
