The synopsis is...

...that's it. Not much else to go on, but I'm a fan of Gerri Hill and will read anything from her. I was not disappointed. Good storyline, sweet romance, a little family drama....a great read!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Bad Cover, Great Book

I've read all of Gerri Hill's books, but I put off buying this one because I thought the cover made it look boring. (Which I'll admit is dumb, but seriously the cover makes it seem like a pretentious period movie with British people discussing their estates.)

Anyway, the cover mislead me because this book was extremely interesting, fun, and has a very fascinating premise that the book description on the back cover does not explain at all. Why is the book synopsis so vague?? I would have bought this sooner if I actually understood what it was about.

As a light read I loved this book. Fast paced and entertaining. For me, the realism of the characters was the most appealing; their thoughts, reactions and emotions were some of the most realistic that Gerri Hill has written.
But even though I loved the realism of Pelican's Landing, I did feel let down by the lack of substance, as if no real effort went into fleshing out anything from the scenery to the characters. This was bare bones writing, as if it was an outstanding draft and then left at that. Most word choices were monosyllables, sentences were short and bland, and back stories/supporting characters were shadowy or not even there. This was an "in the now" book of dialogue, really. A book for the people of this age where everything has to grab your attention for now, but which is soon forgotten in the pursuit of the next superficial attention grabber.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a journey to find peace and love in the one unimaginable place, home.

The very real journey from not knowing your heart to finding peace can begin in the most awful moment. This is a story that deals with relationships on so many levels. Gerri Hill brings a light yet very strong story about awakening to new feelings as you learn to listen to your heart. A loss begins an unfolding of healing with so many of the characters. Great dynamics and gentle care bring story to life. You feel like you are at Pelican's Landing and enjoying a time so unrushed. Beautifully written story.

I have read everything that Gerri Hill has written and will continue to eagerly await the next book! This author has the unique ability to make her characters truly come alive and have you totally invested in them from page one! Pelican's Landing is no exception and Jordan and Annie's story is a lovely read. If you have never read a Gerri Hill book, then you are missing out on something special and I heartily recommend trying one - I guarantee that you will be hooked for life!

This is not one of Gerri Hill's best. It was really hard for me to get in to and continue reading until the end. You know after the first couple of chapters how it is going to end. If you want to read a really good Gerri Hill try One Summer Night, Devil's Rock, Hell's Highway, Coyote Sky, and Snow Falls. All are much more interesting and attention grabbers.

The cover of the book didn't tell you much, but I like Gerri Hill's writing. There's a lot of straights going to the homosexual side, but then you love who you love. The death of the brother and the pregnancy from a one nighter is wild. Good dynamics displaying the understanding and loving family vs. the religious unbending family.
