About this item

The best-selling, epic space adventure, Freedom's Fire: the complete series of six audiobooks, in one box set.

It was never a question of if the aliens would come, it was only ever when.

The first interstellar war, a generation ago, left humanity enslaved. Now, humans fight in the armies of their masters to save themselves from annihilation.

At least, that's what the propaganda insists is true. What the layers of lies keep hidden is how badly the new war is going for the people of earth.

Now, it's Dylan Kane's turn to blast into the heavens and join the battle, but what his masters don't know is that, by putting a weapon in his hands, they're giving him the key to unlocking his hopes of freedom.

When the rail-gun slugs are tearing through his ship and the vacuum is sucking the life out of his wounded friends, will Dylan's years of repressed rage turn into enough bravery to make his dream come true?

The Freedom's Fire series in this special edition includes:

  • Audiobook one: Freedom's Fire
  • Audiobook two: Freedom's Fury
  • Audiobook three: Freedom's Fray
  • Audiobook four: Freedom's Fist
  • Audiobook five: Freedom's Fall
  • Audiobook six: Freedom's Fate

A number one Amazon.com best seller in space marine science fiction.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun read and fast paced

I really enjoyed this series (I bought the entire series bundle...). I'll admit, at first I wasn't sure if I'd like it. It's written in the first-person, present-tense perspective, one which I haven't encountered before. Once I got used to that style of writing, the stories kept me thoroughly engaged. The most interesting feature of the series for me was that the Grays and Trogs weren't really that much more advanced than us humans. Your typical sci-fi antagonists are usually FAR ahead if us technologically speaking. It was refreshing to read a sci-fi book/series that was different.

The only negatives I have are 3 things...

    1. The side story arc with Prolific Man Killer. There was a LOT of opportunities to do something with this. Sadly, at least in this series, this story arc didn't have a conclusion. I was looking forward to humans and Free Trogs teaming up to finish off the Grays. And what about the Grays' wars with the other species? Missed opportunity there to expand upon Gray/Trog history.

    2. The author could've gone into more detail about the Trogs. We know they're the descendants of the Neanderthals of Earth and that they were conquering their way across the galaxy before they ran into the Grays...but how did the Neanderthals make it to space and why isn't there any evidence on Earth? Were they abducted by another species and then revolted against them?

    3. Lastly, there was a LOT of typos in, say the last 1 1/2 books. Not enough to make a reader put the book down, but enough to be pretty noticeable.

All in all, I HIGHLY recommend this series. If the author ever decides to expand upon the series, definitely buy the new books.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well written sci-fi military with just the right dash of space opera.

I was looking for summer reading and I didn't expect much getting a box set for $0.99. I couldn't have been more wrong. The writing reminds me of David Drake's Hammers Slammers but not quite as gritty or intense. It is action packed, with enough background and description to frame the narrative but not enough to bog the story down. The protagonist is no-nonsense and mission oriented, while still interesting and flawed as any person, and would feel right at home in some of Heinlein's best works like The Moon is a Harsh Mistress or Puppet Masters.

There is a nice balance between ship, EVA, and ground combat but the focus always remains with the main characters. Present tense narrative isn't my favorite style but I felt this author pulled it off nicely. I especially like the way characters were not immortal. I hated seeing one of my favorites go but it made me "feel" the danger more after that.

Overall, a fantastic find that I highly recommend if you like military sci-fi with a dash of space opera.

If your are reading bad reviews about this series, they have a point. The story is written in first person and the first few chapters seem rather steep. But you get used after a while and then the story goes on and there is a lot more story telling that is not in first person.

The set could use some editing but the books are well written. Chapters are short and lots of paragraphs too. You may be bothered by this but in my case I got used to this too.

The story gets you interested from the beginning and off you jump into a credible world of a humanity of slaves and aliens the size of small kids with telepathic powers. The science bit is solid and all the rest is credible. Characters are well defined and they grow as the story unfolds.

It does not feel like a pack of different books; rather a long one. There is no wrapping between books and the end falls on top of you like the authors had to go someplace and could not finish.

All in all, these small things do not take the fun out of the reading. Given the price of the kindle edition, there is little to complain about. A fast-paced hard-to-put-down set of 1,400 pages that flow along with ease and fun. If you enjoy the first half of the first book, you will not regret the investment. If you don't like it, little money will be lost. Well worth a try.

The book starts out where they are going to fight the Trogs. But there are a few that are part of the resistance. After they kill their North Korea overlords they set out to kill as many of the Frog Cruisers then go to a free base in the Astorids. Only to find out it is under the Grey and Trog rule. There they kill the Frogs and release the prisoners

I love this book series and hated seeing it at 99cents. This series was well written and entertaining. There were a few minor spelling and formatting issues but the writing itself was well done, the characters well rounded and the pacing excellent. The only problem I had was when the 6th book ended. I grabbed this while on vacation as a way to pass some time and ended up reading it all the way to the end in just a few days. An absolute steal for the price.
