About this item

Worth dyeing for.

Ten years ago, Ryan Comeaux was convicted of killing his girlfriend and was sentenced to life in prison. Now a witness has come forward who claims she was with Ryan the entire night and it’s not possible that he was the killer. But the local police assume she’s mistaken and aren’t interested in reopening what they view as an open-and-shut case.

The witness, Kelsey Spalding, has her own reasons for wanting Ryan’s conviction overturned and hires Swamp Team 3 to prove him innocent. Fortune has solved cold cases before, but never one with so little evidence and so many suspects with not only strong motive but opportunity. Can she solve a decade-old murder, or will the real killer strike again to cover his tracks?

5.0 out of 5 stars Fishing in the Louisiana bayous is a beloved sport and this book is full of red herrings

This is a very interesting read and has lots of twists and turns leading to a lot of dead ends. One of the things I love about this story. It took me awhile to get a handle on the villain. I was probably three quarters inching closer to the ending before I figured it out. Always the characters are well developed as are newer characters who get introduced. There’s plenty of laughs to keep tensions light enough. The only complaint I had is leaving one of the regular main character’s trauma left unresolved. And that is why I will look forward to Book 28.

Delightful entertainment with serious and lighthearted moments. Great characters, loads of laughs, and the usual wonderful sidekicks. Fast paced and over too soon, we follow the Easter holiday in Sinful, resolution of a recent military event, and trying to right a 10 year old crime while managing a critical illness in a young boy are just a few things that Fortune, Ida Belle, Gertie, and Carter are facing. Wonderful series!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Miss Fortune books never disappoint

The mystery was particularly good in this one. It had enough twists and red herrings to thoroughly delight this reader, and the Easter debacle had me laughing so hard that I literally did cry as I rolled around in bed. What a way to brighten a day! The plot(s) were well-thought out and the characters as delightful as ever. There was an excellent mixture of serious with the zany (hats off to Ms. DeLeon for keeping Gertie at the forefront of the zaniness). I can’t wait for the next book!

Another enjoyable story in the series. The lightbulb moment was a little predictable but overall still good. Do hope the whole Kitts thing gets wrapped up soon.

I love each and every Miss Fortune book, and I have read them multiple times. Every time I start a new book, it's like rejoining up with old friends. These books have gotten me through some rough times - the summer I broke my back I read the entire series over again. They gave me joy and saved me from despair. These characters are so fun and clever, the mysteries are interesting. This wacky Louisiana town is a place I'd like to live in. Fortune is definitely someone I'd love to hang out with, and her old buddies are pretty darn badass too! Highly recommend this series!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another exciting Miss Fortune Mystery book

Baskets and Beignets is the 27th book in the fabulous Muss Fortune series by Jana DeLeon and they continue to be entertaining and hard to put down. Fortune Redding used to be CIA and is now a PI along with Ida Belle and Gertie. Fortune is dating Carter who is the Sheriff. Carter is still processing all that happened in books 25 and 26 but is doing ok. He isn't featured in this book much. Fortune got a case to find out if Ryan Comeaux , who is in prison for killing his girlfriend Lindsey, is actually innocent and there is a lot riding on the outcome. There are a lot of secrets and unusual circumstances. With Gertie, Celia, and Ronald's antics there are a lot of laughs. I guessed the culprit but there is so much going on I was riveted until the end. I really enjoy this series. I had both the ebook and audiobook and primarily. listened to the audiobook which is very well done. #BasketsAndBeignets #MissFortuneMysteries #J&RPublishing

Fortune and crew are always a great read, but this one had me guessing right up to the end. The cast of characters alone is worth reading. The mystery is just icing on the cake.
