About this item

Lucid Dreaming: Gateway to the Inner Self is the account of an extraordinarily talented lucid dreamer who goes beyond the boundaries of both psychology and religion. In the process, he stumbles upon the Inner Self.

While lucid (consciously aware) in the dream state and able to act and interact with dream figures, objects, and settings, dream expert Robert Waggoner experienced something transformative and unexpected. He was able to interact consciously with the dream observer - the apparent Inner Self - within the dream. At first this seemed shocking, even impossible, since psychology normally alludes to such theoretical inner aspects as the Subliminal Self, the Center, and the Internal Self-Helper in vague and theoretical ways. Waggoner came to realize, however, that aware interaction with the Inner Self was not only possible, but actual and highly inspiring. He concluded that while aware in the dream state, one has both a psychological tool and a platform from which to understand dreaming and the larger picture of man's psyche as well.

Waggoner proposes 5 stages of lucid dreaming and guides listeners through them, offering advice for those who have never experienced the lucid dream state and suggestions for how experienced lucid dreamers can advance to a new level. Lucid Dreaming offers exciting insights and vivid illustrations that will intrigue not only avid dreamworkers but anyone who is interested in consciousness, identity, and the definition of reality.

This book goes deep into the dream experience. Lots of very interesting testimonies to dream experiments and experiences and how it relates to everyday life.

Lucid dreaming has been a big part of my life since I was a child. I initially began the process in order to combat chronic nightmares that plagued my sleep. In my late teens, I had a four year period of lucid dreaming that would later serve as the inspiration for my own novels. Over the years I had heard the term "lucid dreams" and "conscious dreams" but most of the material that I found was about people purposefully making themselves lucid to create some type of dream fantasy realm. That is all well and good, but I wanted to understand more about what had happened to me with the four years of post-apocalyptic dreams that I had that I did not ask for.

I finally came across Lucid Dreaming: Gateway to the Inner Self. I have not before, nor since found such a great source that actually managed to give me answers to many of the questions that I had. There are, of course, some questions that a book cannot answer and I will need to discover those answers on my own but this book really delves in-depth on the subject of lucid dreaming and the multiple layers and experiences one can have when in this state. My eyes were opened to a level that they had never been opened before as to what is possible.

I also practice meditation, I have for a few years. Combining the two techniques is highly beneficial and really allows one to explore the depths of the sub-conscious that we are normally "locked" away from (I use that loosely, the reality is, we lock ourselves away from our true selves). The author is not only an experienced lucid dreamer, he has conducted numerous experiments with lucid dreaming to really test the depths of his own ability as well as the ability of others to maximize this phenomenon. He does an excellent job chronicling these dreams throughout the book with explanations as well as examples of others who have had similar experiences.

Lucid dreaming, once considered a "fringe science" has been accepted as a scientific reality but the depths have yet to be fully probed. If you have any interest in lucid dreaming, whether you have experienced it yourself, are curious about it, or just want to, this book is a must-have. I was well worth every penny I paid.

It's been very recently in lucid dream and got the bonk on the recommendation of a lucid dreamer I contacted through my blog. I found the book extremely interesting, informative, and fascinating. There's a lot of good information on techniques and on the possibilities that lucid dreaming opens up. I found that manht of the ideas he presents about consciousness Robert Waggoner came to through lucid dreams, I came about through other means but want to explore further through the dream gateway.

This is really well done and it definitely changed my life. He makes profound connections while still staying accessible. He is not a mystic, clairvoyant, or anyone with a set of spiritual beliefs that would prime him to draw and defend the conclusions he comes to - he's just a regular guy that goes on a journey from the bottom up who does whatever he can to learn more about it. To me this makes it so much more compelling, because he has no motivation to prove a certain point and yet he ends up affirming a plethora of ancient knowledge of how the subconscious works, along with certain truths I already had hidden in my heart. To hear someone else affirm with certainty that this waking consciousness is too a sort of dream, or reveal the dream world as an avenue to connect to your higher self...priceless.

Con: At times he can be repetitive or refers to the same few examples. He probably does this for the ease of readers but I personally would like less repetition, more examples.

This book is simply amazing. I am in love with the way Robert Waggoner writes and explains lucid dreaming in such an intensely captivating, brilliant way. He had me hooked from the very first page. I'm only about a 1/4 into the book and I can positively say that it's incredible. It's probably one of the best, not to mention that the subject is so fascinating, he manages it addictive ( now all that I need to find is a book about astral travel that is as informative and amazing as this one, wink wink** Robert.. if you're reading this, I know your expertise isn't in astral projection but can't you just write a book about it - Please ;)

Ps- I got the hardcover copy with the extra lucid dreaming journal and I love it.

Thank You for this amazing book!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is by far the best book on lucid dreaming I have found

This is by far the best book on lucid dreaming I have found. Very well written, nice logical flow to the book, and packed with information I haven’t seen in other books. The author gives you hints on how to become lucid, how to recognize when you are having a lucid dream, how to handle the dream when you become lucid so you can stay lucid in the dream and keep it going, and chapters covering just about every type of lucid dream you could experience. The book covers healing in a dream, mutual lucid dreaming, precognitive dreams, interacting with the deceased, how to ask for information, and how to distinguish a thought form from a deeper connection with your unconscious. The author provides interesting examples of each type of dream situation. An excellent reference book.
