Still far from their homeland after escaping slavery in the icebound land of Skandia, Will and Evanlyn's plans to return to Araluen are spoiled when Evanlyn is taken captive by a Temujai warrior. Though still weakened by the warmweed's toxic effects, Will employs his Ranger training to locate his friend, but an enemy scouting party has him fatally outnumbered.

Will is certain death is close at hand, until Halt and Horace make a daring, last-minute rescue. The reunion is cut short, however, when Halt makes a horrifying discovery: Skandia's borders have been breached by the entire Temujai army. And Araluen is next in their sights.

If two kingdoms are to be saved, an unlikely union must be made. Will it hold long enough to vanquish a ruthless new enemy? Or will past tensions spell doom for all?

The battles and drama are nonstop in audiobook four of this hugely popular epic.

1...Had a bit of trouble with Amazon and the delivery of my item. First it got lost (carriers fault) and then I had to deal with a threat of being charged for my replacement as they claimed I had recieved BOTH copies afterall, but I only got one. So yeah.. That was a headache.
2.. As for the book itself? Great!!! Really enjoyed reading it with my 11 year old son who enjoys medieval fantasy type stories. We still like to sit and read a chapter or two of a book together each night, just makes for good screen free time together. We happened to have the first 2 Rangers Apprentice stories from someone giving us copies.. We are now trying to read the entire series. Its an easy read for me, but perfect for him. Story is fun and exciting, he is always wondering what will happen next to the main characters and really gets into these books. Now my 8 year old daughter likes them, too. and is reading them in turn with my husband. So great stories for the entire family!

My favorite of the books so far. I love all of them together, Will, Horace, Halt and Evanlyn. I hope they have many more adventures together to come!

Though now that Halt and Will are back together, ranger assignments are likely to keep them away, in the shadows saving the kingdom before problems come to a head!

Looking forward to the next book. Mom and I are reading them together, a nostalgic read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great action packed novel!

the rangers apprentice: the battle for Skandia was a book filled with surprises, action and some dry humor from Halt, Will, Evanlyn (a.k.a. princess cassandra), and Horace. In the last book, Will and Evanlyn were kidnapped by a Skandian wolfship. They get sold as slaves, and there the wolfship captain, Erak that took them as slaves took pity on them and helped them escape since he felt that since they fought bravely, their opponents should be treated with a little bit of respect. while this is happening, halt and horace are looking for will and evanlyn. when will and evanlyn escape slavery, they find a small winter cabin, where they stay until the end of winter. but one day when evanlyn is checking the traps for food, she gets kidnapped by one of the Temu'jai. will gets worried and goes looking for her and finds her tied up in a Temu'jai camp. meanwhile, halt and horace are on the same trail. They find a half dozen dead skandians at a border post, killed by arrows, and they follow a trail of hoof prints to where the camp is. they find will and they go in and rescue evanlyn from the Temu'jai. Later they are found by erak, and then they tell him that they are will be attacked by the Temu'jai. erak takes them back to the skandian fortress where they will try to fend off the Temu'jai. i would recommend this book to everyone who loves a great action-packed novel.

5.0 out of 5 stars For Adventure Seekers Only

My daughter received book 1 of this series a couple of years ago as a gift. I began reading it to my children at bedtime and soon all 3 of us were hooked. John Flanagan is a very talented author and keeps the suspense going all the way through each book. There were very few chapters in any of the first 3 books or this one where we were comfortable stopping for the night. More often than not, I would hope my kids would beg for one more chapter so I could give in and read on to satisfy my own curiousity. At times, after I tucked them in, I would have to go sneak a peak at the next chapter because I couldn't stand the suspense! Then I would be so excited about what was going on that I would read that chapter to my children during breakfast the next morning!

Flanagan has created a world enough like ours to be believeable and comfortable at times, but different enough to pique your curiousity and leave you frequently fearing the unknown. Book 3 was such a cliffhanger that book 4 "The Battle for Skandia" was a welcome relief to hanging at the edge of your seat. Though it is very well written, interesting, full of adventure and excitement, I am able to relax and breath a little more often while reading this one. I give the entire series five stars!

The "Battle For Skandia" is the 4th book in John Flanagan's Ranger's Apprentice series, and it is just as good as the others. Picking up where Book 3 left off, Halt and Horace have come to Skandia to find Will and Evenlyn, who have been kidnapped. When they get there, they find Skandia is about to be invaded by the Temujai, a race of warriors. Halt and company forge a truce with Skandia to help them with the battle. This book features far more battle planning and action then the first books. The action is intense, and Flanagan is truly talented in creating vivid images through his writing. The characters are likable, the plot is intense and unpredictable, and even though the ending has resolution (unlike the first 3), it leaves you wanting more. I highly recommend this book and the entire series to anyone!

For home schooling four of our grandsons, ages 10 to 13 years old, we are using this series for their group (out loud) reading project. One grandson is reading remotely, at a specific time, with the other boys (Monday thru Friday). All the boys enjoy the adventure stories and even add their own accents for the character they are reading for. Currently they are half way through book # 4 (Battle for Skandia) and are asking when my wife and I when are we going to order book #5. The boys are trying to convince us to continue the group reading through the summer.
