Vargas' story is inspiring and relatable. She takes readers around the world as she goes from blogging as a hobby to being a full time travel writer. This is a great read for people faced with tough choices and for anybody who dreams about completely revamping their life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful journey

This book instantly grabs you and quickly immerses you into the author's very personal journey. She travels from low to high, back to lows, and then again to highs. It is an emotional rollercoaster. The background of this narrative is traveling around the world. She paints a vivid picture of countless world destinations. From culture, religion, food, laughter and romance, you feel you are there.
It is a beautiful and thoughtful book. I can't recommend it enough.

5.0 out of 5 stars What an inspiring read

This was a really enjoyable and quick read as I didn’t really put it down. I liked the way her travel destinations and her life story informed each other throughout the book. I found myself wondering where she would go next after each of the major life events she had experienced. She painted some lovely descriptions of her trips and then some that I’m sure were great, but I may pass on. I like showers and proper beds. They make for great passages though and I admire her willingness to go on such adventures. Nikki seems more fearless than myself, in travel as well as work, and it seems that even with a few ups and downs that her ambitions have paid off in many ways. Would recommend.

I couldn't put down this well written beautifully done memoir about wanderlust, travel adventures, family ties, cultural roots, the ups and downs of old and new love. It made me want to dust off my passport and book a trip. Loved every delicious word. A book I didn't want to end.

This was a book that I had apparently pre-ordered at some point, so when it came to my @audible account, it was a pleasant surprise.

Review: Call You When I Land is a familiar story. Some would argue that it’s actually become its own subgenre and while it isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, it is one I enjoy and identify with: a woman going through a break-up and rediscovering herself through travel. (I’ve already read a few this year and I have a list on my blog of 20 Travel Books About Self-Discovery…many are written by women). Nikki Vargas makes her living as a travel writer, so she’s descriptive and a good storyteller, she travels to many fun places, and she shares true stories of what it’s like to be a travel creator–I especially appreciated her honesty and vulnerability in talking about a business failure. It can be a bit repetitive and I’m not sure she went deep enough in some of the relationship issues, but it’s still worth a read for those that enjoy travel memoirs.

4.0 out of 5 stars It’s worth a read

The premise of the memoir spoke to me as a hopeless romantic who adores travel, and I appreciated how the structure consistently married the author’s travels with her love life (in varying degrees of the good, the bad, and the shallow). There were multiple instances where the account felt redundant, however, and I wanted a fresh perspective or new level of awareness. Vargas clearly has a knack for storytelling, so I enjoyed her memoir overall - even in moments where I wanted more commentary on her relative privilege despite the challenges/setbacks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic travel memoir with unexpected twists and turns

Sure this memoir will transport you in vivid detail around the world, but it also takes you to entirely unexpected places—like investigating an unsolved murder in Colombia, launching a women's magazine in NYC, and running away from a wedding to a jungle in Argentina. A quick and fun read.
