About this item

Confessing feelings for your best friend takes being tongue-tied to a whole new level.

AUSTIN

Dex has always been my best friend, so it’s no surprise that we attend Franklin U together. We’re complete opposites. Dex is charismatic and outgoing. Me? Let’s just say I wish I could infuse some of his confidence into my veins. Making friends is hard enough, but trying to meet guys, even with Dex’s help? I’m useless. Maybe it’s because Dex is all about hooking up, but I want my first time to be straight out of the pages of the romance novels I read.

DEX

After a string of mishaps, I swore off helping Austin land guys. But when he asks me to show him the ropes with practice sessions, I get the feeling he’s desperate. Our dates are pretend, so why am I getting so into them? I want to make Austin happy, but the line between friendship and something more is getting really damned blurry. The fluttery feeling, that electric energy every time we touch…it’s addicting. I’m getting overprotective, not only of my time with Austin, but with douchebags who might break his heart.

Eventually, the pretending has to end so Austin can strike out on his own. But how do I tell him I’m not ready to let him go, when every attempt at confessing leaves me tongue-tied?

Austin and Dex were fantastic. I sometimes have a hard time with best friends to lovers, but not with these two. Even with their doubts, they always communicated. They were ridiculously perfect for each other! I loved that their friends saw it and pointed it out to them. Milo and Kael were the perfect amount of involved. They didn't push, but they did give voice to what they saw. I think Austin and Dex needed that little insight to move forward. I was grateful that Dex's mom was able to start healing herself. She desperately needed that! She was a good person, but she was putting Dex in a bad spot. I loved these two so much!!

Our favorite barista is in need of lessons on how not to be tongue tied when a hot guy is near.

Austin has been best friends with Dex since forever. Dex is full of charisma, life, and an easy confidence which makes him appear free. Austin is the opposite, he’s introverted, romantic and quiet. Austin is looking for his happily ever after and wants to fall in love. Dex doesn’t believe love exists, but he believes Austin deserves everything he wants and more.

Dex has always been the one to get Austin outside of his comfort zone. Their friendship is balanced between chaos and controlled chaos. Austin gives Dex direction and Dex gives Austin life.

Dex’s mission is for Austin to see how amazing he is and for other guys to see the same. The problem is Dex is like gravity and he pulls everyone to him and sometimes it overshadows Austin. To everyone but Dex.

This is one of the sweetest slow burn childhood friends to lovers romance. I love how their friendship changed and grew to be more.

The initial chapters in the book are fairly disappointing. The characters are predictable and the scenario is a bit of a stretch. Once the two friends begin the "fake dates," however, the writing becomes stronger, characterization gains depth, and the story becomes much more engaging.

    Austin and Dex

It was nice finally having Austin's story. If you haven't read the other Franklin U 2 books yet, you need to, but Austin appears in some of the others, just really short cameos. But he always seemed like a sweet guy, so it was nice that he got his own hea.

I enjoyed this warm swoon worthy book. It took a little long to get started and had more politics than I liked, but that’s just me. Once it got started it was pretty good.

I loved the ending and how cute the couple was.

Yes, it’s. Best friend to lovers story but it is fun and well written. We had a really cold evening here recently. I snuggled into a nice hoodie in fuzzy joggers and completely relaxed into the story of Austin & Dex. Loved it. I think you will as well.

This is a really sweet friends to lovers, fake dating romance. Dex and Austin have what feels to me like an unusual bffs to lovers story—instead of one secretly pining for his straight bff, these two are both gay, but have just never thought of each other that way before. It’s not until they start fake dating that they start to see each other in a different way and new feelings start to develop. It makes it fun because they are both grappling with new feelings. I like that they’re open and honest with each other and that they’re protective of their friendship. It was good to see Austin gain confidence in himself and for Dex to learn that being in a relationship could be a good thing for him.

I really enjoyed the side characters too. Their roommates Milo and Kael were great allies.

The dialogue was awkward for the most part and some scenes just didn’t click with me. For example, in one scene Austin says he’s going to go get him and Dex some water and then doesn’t come back and Dex finds him reading in a corner. What…? These characters just didn’t do it for me personally.
