The Gentleman by Dianna Roman gives us Pete and Cam, possibly one of the most unlikely couples I’ve “met” in a long time and I was cheering for them right from their awkward start. Her research into OCD was thorough and made Pete so endearing and relatable to those with similar…quirks. Watching Cam’s personal growth was heart-wrenching at times, but added real poignancy to the story. And Roman’s use of the flower pot to kick things off was genius. By the last page, I wasn’t ready to let go so I went back and re-read specific parts, including the pulling-off-the-shoulder scene and the eavesdropping scene, which were especially well done. Highly recommend!

This book was genuinely so sweet. The relationship developed so seamlessly and with little issue or angst overall. These two were so cute, and I loved their connection with one another. They brought out so many new things in one another, and it was beautiful to watch these two blossom.

I think I wanted to see a bit more development overall, and I just wanted to see these two more because they were very sweet. Overall, I enjoyed reading this book and definitely recommend this if you want a sweet and fluffy romance with low angst.

5.0 out of 5 stars great book!

This story was not at all what I expected! I love Pete and Cam. They are both a sweet and quirky. Their inner dialogues were hysterical and their acceptance of each other melted my jaded heart. I love that Pete has OCD and Cam loves him completely. Cam’s family is THE WORST. I the drama with Randy and his dad got wrapped up to neatly for my taste. The Carver family is seriously perfectly. Family goals, with that group. Can we please have a follow up in that small town? I do have a lingering question.. who is Brice and do he and cam ever get to meet in real life??

I loved this book so much! You can't help but fall in love with Cameron. He tried so hard to please his father over the years, but continues to live in his shadow. Finally deciding to do something for himself, he seeks the help of a Gentleman, someone who could show him the ropes. Pete is no gentleman, he's not even gay. But there is something about Cameron that sparks his interest. I loved how these two got to know each other. I enjoyed the apple picking scenes and absolutely adored Pete's family. I liked how Pete's OCD was represented and how possessive he got of Cameron. I was also happy that Cameron's brother Randy got a little redemption. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Cam couldn't help himself with his assumption but he sure earns A+ for his perseverance and going after what he wants. It will amaze you from toxic families how good children still come out on top. Pete has a great family but is a workaholic and he about to get a different perspective and his world turned upside down. This is a great love story to not settle! MM romance

This was really cute. I was amused by the back and forth between the 2 MMCs.

Good mental health rep.

The beginning of this book was so cringe inducing while simultaneously making me cover my mouth to stifle my laughter. The “meet cute” between Cameron and Pete was so awkward but getting to read it from their dual pov was hilarious. Especially Pete’s!

Cam and Pete were adorable together and the way they come together so naturally (once all the awkward misunderstandings are past) was great to read. Cam coming out of his shell and gaining some much needed confidence and compassion was a pleasure to read. And Pete discovering a whole side to himself he never fathomed before but that made him feel so right for the first time was amazing.

The story in general felt very low angst. There are some funny moments, some heartwarming, and of course some spicy ones.

Now for what didn’t work.

I appreciate Roman’s creation of a character with OCD and a partner who doesn’t question supporting those tendencies. Showing through Pete’s POV how those impulses have played a constant role in his life and relationships was interesting. BUT, the OCD felt like more of an entertainment aspect to the character and story rather than something meaningful or even educational. Cam was portrayed as a supportive partner who never questioned making small changes to alleviate some of Pete’s anxiety, but the moments where he did so were almost non existent and for the most part their relationship was described as almost being a “cure” for the majority of Pete’s OCD impulses. Which is frankly, ridiculous. Not to mention, insulting to someone who does suffer from OCD.

The dual POV started out strong in this book but by the 60% mark, I kept forgetting whose perspective I was reading because the two MCs suddenly were written almost exactly the same. All of Pete’s adorable internal debates and quirks disappeared.

All in all the story was sweet and I did enjoy reading about Cam and Pete getting their HEA, but I’m not sure this will ever be a reread for me.
