5.0 out of 5 stars An appealing story for women of all ages

I love this author and eagerly awaited this book. In many ways it met or surpassed my expectations. The characters were flawed but likable and realistic. Women of various ages and at different life milestones are featured. The gilded age setting was fun. The religious themes were well done and beautifully integrated. It reminded me in many ways of some of my favorite Lynn Austin novels, Eve's Daughters and A Proper Pursuit. And there in lies a bit of a problem for me. As much as I enjoyed All My Secrets, I couldn't help but feel it was more of an amalgamation of these two novels than a truly unique story. However, this is not uncommon especially in the world of historical Christian fiction, where I've read more interchangeable WWII plotlines than I care to admit. Overall, I really enjoyed All My Secrets and found it inspiring and convicting. It was perhaps the best book I've read in some time and definitely deserves 5 stars. Lynn Austin remains a must buy for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Masterpiece of Christian Fiction

There’s a reason the author, Lynn Austin, has sold over a million books. They are gripping and capture your attention from the very beginning. All My Secrets is set during the Gilded Age and features a grandmother, mother, and daughter. The author keeps the reader’s attention by sprinkling hints throughout the book about the secrets of the mother and grandmother. It’s a warm, rich story that is woven together beautifully.

Austin’s book has great spiritual depth, and her insights into living well are echoed throughout the book. Readers will be encouraged to love others as God loved them, and they will see wonderful examples of overcoming obstacles.

Since there are three main characters, readers will find at least one they can relate to. For me, it was more than one. I especially loved Junietta, her spunk, and her love for God, and her concern for others.

The perfect story for yesterday, today and all the tomorrows to come. Using the gifts and skills and passions I was given in the beginning has proven over my many years to be wise and rewarding and thoroughly enjoying. It was God's plan for me all along.
Excellent book. Lovely story and great advice.

4.0 out of 5 stars A decent book

I've read a few books by this author and most of them were really well written and enjoyable. I liked how this one turned out at the end. I did like Junietta and Adelaide and was rooting for her to find out what would be good for her in life. And no one seemed to know much about Sylvia, but when we find out about her story - hers is the most tragic, I think! I felt so sorry for her with all her losses. And I'm glad they all were able to open up to each other finally! Things came together, mainly due to giving it over to the Lord in prayer. Still, at the end, it's not staying with me like some books do - sorry to say. The author did mention about having writing it one way, but due to suggestions, they changed it. Maybe it needed changed, but maybe not, only they know! But maybe I would have liked to hear more of how things turned out for everyone, could be just that. I really liked Mr. Forsythe and their search for the missing family member. I don't like to give the story away, so keep it kind of vague! I hope others will enjoy it, but it kind of lacked something for me - sorry!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous!

This is a story of three generations of women from an uber-wealthy New York family during the Gilded Age. It tells a story where keeping secrets meant the difference between living normally or being ostracized from society and disowned by one's own family. It was a world where class lines were sharply distinct and not to be crossed. We see the cruel reality that wealthy women were frequently traded as chattel in business deals. The concept of marrying for love was out of question. The elderly protagonist in this story is a woman who broke with tradition and inspired her daughter-in-law and granddaughter to do likewise. It is a story of being true to oneself and blazing one's own path. I enjoyed it from the first page to the very end. Great story!

5.0 out of 5 stars Three Generations of Stanhope Women
Reviewed in the United States on June 9, 2024
Lynn Austin wrote a fantastic novel with three generations of Stanhope women--grandmother Junietta, mother Sylvia, and daughter Adelaide--who lived in the late 1800s. Each was subjected to the expectations of others, each had burdens of her own to bear, and each tried to find her way forward. Forgiveness is a huge theme as well as devoting one's life to worthwhile endeavors that honor God. The suffrage movement becomes a passion for Adelaide. I loved the ending!
