About this item

Nothing Is Wasted is a story for anyone who has encountered trauma, tragedy, or a major transition and wondered, how do I begin to move forward through what I've experienced?

Where is God in the midst of your greatest pain?

Davey Blackburn wrestled with that age-old question in the aftermath of the murder of his beloved wife, Amanda, and their unborn daughter. As the high-profile case slowly meandered its way toward legal justice, Davey embarked on the wrenching task of finding strength to restore his shattered soul and the broken pieces of his life.

At turns horrific yet hope-filled, heartbreaking yet faith-affirming, Nothing Is Wasted is Blackburn’s disarmingly raw account not only of the shocking tragedy that forever changed his life, but of his late wife’s inspiring trust in the God who welcomed her into His loving arms.

The trauma he endured could have made anyone try to escape from the agony, yet by grace Blackburn chose to face the pain head-on and cling to his Savior to guide him through the storm.

As the riveting story of one man’s journey through the valley of suffering unfolds, listeners will join Blackburn in discovering:

  • the surprising ways that hope and joy can arise in the midst of any trial or sorrow.
  • the tension in accepting that “Why?” may never become clear this side of eternity.
  • how a good Father is faithful to draw near to the brokenhearted.
  • how forgiveness is the key to finding freedom in even the most unimaginable of offenses.
  • where to discover purpose in the deepest pain.
  • how a breathtaking moment at the altar symbolized love’s triumph over death.
  • . . . and much more.

Most of us will never endure the depth of heartache that Blackburn has walked through, and yet his message is for us all: that even in the greatest losses and most complex tragedies, God is inviting us on a path towards redemption and healing, hope and faith, where we can begin to see that nothing is wasted.

Not many can relate to the overarching loss that was the catalyst for Davey’s writing, but all will relate to the human experience of walking out faith in a really broken world. Davey’s writing is raw, vulnerable and powerful yet also beautiful so that it’s easy to read. I didn’t want to put it down! The book is a vehicle for transforming our perspective when walking through pain and aligning with what is true and right.

Modern day Jim and Elizabeth Eliot story. So powerful. So heart wrenching, yet so redemptive. Thank you, Amanda for showing us how to live fully surrendered and thank you, Davey for stewarding your story and your pain so purposefully. Beautifully written.

God gives us a choice, He does not force himself on anyone.

Davey openly shares his gut-wrenching struggles during the aftermath of losing the love of his life Amanda and their unborn daughter.

Davey does not shy away from the questions, doubt, and fear surrounding him as he walked through the darkest times of his life.

Davey's choice to continually trust God, especially after wrestling with God, lets the world know that it is OK to wish for challenges to pass us. Still, if we choose to trust Jesus, He will be there for us and allow God to weave a story more powerful than anything we could ever imagine.

The Nothing is Wasted Ministry and Pain to Purpose Course that Davey created as a result of this period in his life, has gone on to help thousands, myself being one of them.

Thank you for sharing your story, brother. It is beautifully and powerfully written.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heartbreaking true story of finding hope and purpose amid a horrific tragedy.

Written memoir style the reader experiences the events of November 2015 firsthand. In the aftermath of the horrific events Davey invites the reader along to journey with him as he deals with very real questions and emotions. The insights and wisdom gleamed from Amanda’s journals, the different conversations, books are very valuable for the reader in forming a more complete theology of suffering and loss.
The second part of the book takes place several years after the tragedy and brings the story full circle. The reader sees practical examples of how the truths Davey discovered in the first half are lived out in the second part of the story.
Even though the book deals with very heavy topics the book is filled with hope. I would highly recommend this book for anyone who have struggled with the why questions in the midst of pain and suffering.

Such a wonderful story that I did not want to put down yet I had to at certain points because it read so real that it made my heart race. Through many chapters, tears streamed down my face. The book captivating and not cumbersome, it has shorter chapters within different sections that flow so well. Thank you Davey Blackburn for sharing your story with the world and for giving God all the glory!! Amanda’s legacy of adorning The Gospel throughout every aspect of her life is inspiring!!

If you have ever walked through a fire, left with pieces that don't make sense, pick up this book. It will show you how to have heartbreak AND walk alongside God with the kind of working faith God calls us to have.
I started this book a few weeks back. In a time of my life when everything was upside down and made no sense but one thing, God is ALWAYS working. Reading Davey's story filled my heart with so much hope and validation that the strength I find in Jesus during this season is more than a broken heart clinging to anything that brings mild comfort. This testimony shows the comfort found in the mess is exactly where God shows up to serve His purpose. In every ache and pain, God is there, working it for His will.
Davey's story is well-written and unfiltered in a way that shows the true mess of a life upturned. Something so many people walk through life experiencing, but so few people bring to the table in such honesty. His pain is not unique, we live in a broken world where everyone carries hurt. This book will show you how God uses any pain for His good. If you open your heart and let him.

The examples of forgiveness, redemption, and faith are undoubtedly a blessing to any who take the time to read this book.
God is so good, and nothing in Him is wasted.

5.0 out of 5 stars There is HEALING in this book!

I learned about Davey Blackburn from a post on CBN News. When I listened to a tiny bit of his testimony of how God turned what the enemy meant for evil to good, as ONLY He can, I wanted to read the book. What I didn't know, was that Davey's journey would be such a blessing to me, as it has helped me to see God's love and greater purpose in the things that He has allowed to touch my life! Truly, His ways are not our ways! God's ministry to Davey through family, friends, and direct communion with God ALL along that journey back to joy was truly amazing. How God led Davey into healing and wholeness again step by step, is a divine example of His goodness, His love, and His personal attention in our lives. It is unfathomable how God can turn tragedy into triumph, and gain a servant who is of GREATER effectual use for the Kingdom of God! Truly, Jesus was with Davey in the fire, just like He was with the three Hebrew boys many generations ago. And He is with us in our trials and tribulations, too. It is with heartfelt gratitude to Davey, his writing and editing team, the publisher, his wife Kristi, family and friends, for any contribution you each had in making this book available to all of us. If you are alive and reading this, you've experienced some kind of hurt. Trust me, there's healing in this book for you, too!
