I was a happy camper and fully armed with my arsenal of fasting info! I'm an RN and I love the science. I haven't felt compelled to read much more outside of online research articles. I have been successfully IFing for almost 2 years. But we were coming up on our beach vacation and I love a good book for beach reading.
I can't say how much I love this book. It really took a lot of Dr. Fung's science into account and broke it down to layman's understanding. Its straightforward and thorough. All the basic questions are here and answered. The harder questions down the road are even answered or at least addressed. It is so well written, fun, and personable. Who else feels like Gin is a friend? ????????♀️
I will always still heavy push reading Dr. Fung's books and not to mention his online info; totally free because he's a saint of a doctor that really cares about helping people. But I can't say how invaluable Gin's books have been.
I don't want to fly through a book, but when its about self improvement, I want to get through it pretty briskly! I read on this off and on for about 3-5 days. If you read really steadily, you could do it in 1 or 2 easily! It's a good resource to look back on. It is wonderful for those starting out and it's a good source of info/refresher for the veteran IFer! I didn't need encouragement that I COULD fast, but if I did, this book gives it to you!
Delay Don't Deny is an even quicker read, I believe I knocked it out in a day; and if you want super fast and to dive right in, it might be a good starting place. But Fast, Feast, Repeat is just phenomenal. Everything is well sourced and the other book recommendations are great and super helpful! I think I'll get Mindset next!
I have been stalling with my 105 lb total weight loss for about a year now, bouncing up and down in a 10 lb range; this gave me some insight and remotivated me to continue my efforts and that despite stalls, I am still doing my body good.
Some feel Delay Don't Deny is encouraging a free for all food wise. While I think the first book could be seen that way by some, like Dr. Fung, I think it's more about encouraging compliance. Dr. Fung even says that fasting can be coupled with ANY diet and that fasting is as simple as not eating; not having specific dietary restrictions or goals can be very helpful for some. It's me! I'm some! Chronic middle child syndrome of, "You can't tell me what to do!" Having more freedom in my food choices, helps keep me on track with better eating and I do try for more low carb because of my insulin resistance from PCOS.
Fast, Feast, Repeat does NOT encourage an eating free for all or permission to eat whatever you want. It encourages the reader to eat whatever diet is best for them and if what you're doing isn't working, that adjusting it can be a big help; whether that's keto, paleo, whole foods, etc.
Also I would love to read a book collaborated by these two! I love their humor and writing styles!

This book is a great comprehensive guide on why and how to practice Intermittent Fasting, in an intuitive way, without restricting carbs, and cutting out whole food groups. It will change the way you eat, over time, your cravings will change, and you will naturally eat more nutrient dense whole foods to feel good. Because you will feel so good, you will make food choices based on that, allowing more decadent foods in moderation. Fasting just naturally reprograms us for that.
If you are a Christian, or not, I would add that God designed us for fasting. We are created to fast, and adding in prayer and bringing God into the process can have spectacular results. Sometimes I laugh when people are so amazed about fasting, because our Creator made us to fast...The early Church fasted 2/3 of the year, and Orthodox Christians still do! Many other traditions fast as well.
God bless you and your healing journey with Intermittent Fasting. Just go for it! You've got nothing to lose and so much life to gain.
