About this item

I’m proud to be a geek.

I’m smart, but I’m also awkward and somewhat socially inept—forever doomed to live in the shadow of my dead brother.

My job as a research engineer is amazing, though, and recently, I’ve managed to make some friends in my hometown of Forestville.

But when the wrong people show too much interest in my latest invention, my boss wants me protected. Despite my fierce protests, I end up back in Forestville. With a bodyguard who poses as my boyfriend.

Quillon is nothing like I had expected. He’s my opposite, but we connect in ways I never saw coming, and for the first time, I don’t feel alone. He takes care of me like no one ever has.

Oh, and he’s also extremely hot, which is fascinating because I’ve always thought I was straight. Apparently not.

But is this just a temporary thing or could it be forever?

Protecting the Nerd is the fourth book in the Forestville Silver Foxes series, a contemporary small-town MM romance series featuring hot silver foxes and the men who fall in love with them. Each book can be listened to as a standalone. Please check the trigger warnings in the front of the book.

What an exceptional book. This is the first book I have said was exceptional in my reviews that I can remember. York, is a very smart man, who works with the EDS. When his latest invention catches the attention of the Russians, his boss calls in a bodyguard. Quillion is the best on his team and his boss Remington sent him in to protect York. York refused but when he realized he didn’t have a choice and that his life was in serious danger, he agreed. So between the FBI agent, Quillion, and York, they agreed for the two to fake their relationship and pretend they were boyfriends. They also agreed to moved to Forestville, York’s home town. But soon their fake relationship wasn’t fake and together they both found what they needed in each other’s arms and hearts.
Come and read this wonderful, extraordinary story of relationships, romance, finding one’s self, along with action and yes you guessed it, SMUT! But just the right amount of it all. Protecting the Nerd was a definite 5 stars ⭐️

This was the fourth book in this Forestville Silver Foxes series and probably my favorite so far. The two MCs were both lovely men, and the storyline moved along at a good pace. There were a few editing errors but nothing terribly egregious. I really liked the cameo of Coulsan from the White House Men series. The nickname Quillan had for York was super annoying though and really grated on me with its very frequent use. Overall though, this was a very enjoyable read. The following was my favorite quote from the book:

I’d thought deciding to let go of them was a onetime thing, but I’d been wrong. It was a choice I’d have to make again and again and again until the pain had subsided and become bearable. In the meantime, I’d have to focus on the good things, on the worthy things, on the positive things.

York, the nerd, was an incredibly endearing character. His curiosity and delight in learning was so much fun. I loved the portrayal of care and compassion by the protector, Quillion. Excellent story.

I really like this series because it’s a lot of second chance at love stories. This one is a lot like book one. Two people that shouldn’t work but do.

York is the defense department programmer with a target on his back. Quillon is the bodyguard assigned to protect him. Their cover is fake boyfriends.

Good pacing, standing up to bullies, good sex scenes, and some kick ass action! Loved it. And now I need to read this White House series to get that hit FBI guy’s sorry. Trickery!

I really enjoyed these caracters. Wasn't sure I would like this book. But I read the entire book in few hours, needed to see how it ended. Great love story , plus good story line. Can't wait for next in series. Read them in order if you can, but can be read as a standalone. These men are fun.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting But Mediocre

I was quite excited for this book. York was a character we had met a few times in previous books but who was for the most part, a mystery. Quillon seemed like a really intriguing counterpart to York from the beginning, I enjoyed how he was so kind and accepting of York’s differences. The plot in general was interesting and very different than the other books but a bit more exciting so I really liked how everything began.

Unfortunately I started to lose interest once the two MMCs were actually together. All the things that I really enjoyed about their varied personalities seemed to disappear and suddenly everything was perfectly amicable and easy. Their conversations were a bit strange and read very robotic, and most of the time I didn’t think either of them really spoke or thought in a way that fit to their age.

York as a character is super complex. I liked reading about how his brain worked and how Quillon seemed to understand what he needed. But it’s also clear how the author wrote him that there is an aspect to his personality that reads very neurodivergent and I can’t tell if the author unintentionally wrote a character that way or if they just didn’t feel like mentioning it further in the story. It felt like a missed opportunity that nothing was mentioned or delved into further.

All in all I did enjoy the book, but I can’t ignore that York and Quillon together read kind of boring! Add in quite a few typos and disjointed conversations and you’ve got a book that is entertaining but missing the mark.

This book was so beyond sweet. First off, York was just so endearing. I hated that he struggled in childhood and closed himself off so thoroughly from people.... but then comes Quillon. Quillon is so sweet, kind, and patient. He takes the time to see York and understand him, and it is the best thing ever. The pure open communication was absolutely refreshing. I have never liked lies and subterfuge in a relationship because it always results in a misunderstanding and a third act breakup. We see none of that here, just these two slowly but surely getting closer and loving each other purely. This was a very wholesome story that was so bright and shiny. I 100% recommend this!
