4.0 out of 5 stars Inconsistencies
Reviewed in the United States on January 17, 2024
The books and characters are great but there are inconsistencies the editor should have caught. In book two, two characters meet. There is a whole chapter dedicated to these two characters meeting. In book three chapter one they meet for the first time and have no idea who each other is. Confusing because again they know each other. Also in book two another set of characters meets has whole conversations while in a dungeon together but in book three one of the characters says he’s looking for the other. They already met. They were imprisoned together. They shared names. Again confusing and inconsistent. There are several wasted chapters on these inconsistencies. An update should be made to correct these errors. Otherwise I enjoyed the book as did my teenage daughter. I have not finished book three but I am very close. Also sorry if that’s confusing on my part I did not want to give any spoilers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Magical Series

Queens of the Fae is an amazing series about a young girl, Brea, raised as a human trying to find her place in the fae world. She learns some hard lessons on who she can trust while also discovering who she is and who she is meant to be. Not to mention who to give her heart to. You can't help but be drawn into this magical world with Brea and her friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!

Queens of the Fae is a box set trilogy, the first three books in the greater Queens of the Fae Collection of trilogies, consisting of Fae's Deception, Fae's Defiance, and Fae's Destruction. This trilogy follows the story of Brea Robinson, a girl from Ohio, as her world is turned upside down after she is arrested for the supposed murder of her best friend during one of her 'episodes.' She is rescued from jail and transported to the Fae world where she learns that she's not crazy as everyone thought, including herself, and that her whole life has been a lie. She also learns that she is somehow important to all three kingdoms in this realm.

Each book centers on one of the three realms and Brea's position in and/or connection to it. Throughout the series she makes friends, discovers enemies, makes sacrifices, and grows from a seemingly unbalanced girl into a confident young woman.

I love the characters and their development over the course of the three books. The world building is fantastic and even smaller characters are fleshed out well. I only have one criticism. I know it is inevitable with portal fantasies, but the regular and sometimes pointed references to the human world, culture, etc. pulled me out of the story at times. Overall though, I loved this trilogy and cannot wait to read the next three.

I listened to Queens of the Fae as an audiobook and feel the narrator did a fantastic job too.

5.0 out of 5 stars I loved the unexpected evolving of the story

I really liked this story. I was excited to see how it turned out and would like to hear more. The life of fairies is different from that of humans and follows unexpected rules. Can these be changed?
If you love fantastical tales, this is for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars began a little slow, but it picked up

Queens of the Fae (Omnibus)
by M. Lynn & Melissa A. Craven
YA Fantasy Folklore
Audio

This audiobook contains the first three books in the Queens of the Fae series, (Fae's Deception, Fae's Defiance, and Fae's Destruction). This is the story of Brea Robinson, a teenager who has been different her entire life, sent to mental institutions for telling people she saw strange things, and for her anger, lashing out and hurting her parents and her best friend, which gets her arrested for murder.

But sitting in the jail cell a man with violet eyes takes her through a portal into the world everyone has told her was all in her mind.

The story began a little slow, but it picked up and the audio narrator was really good. There is action, romance, betrayal, funnies, and morals. And while there is sexuality and battles, they are not too graphic so it's appropriate for mature readers 16 and over. There were some nice descriptions, though I don't feel the 'Fae' aspects of the characters were described enough, or in in-depth detail. They were there, but just not enough to keep the picture of them being Fae (different) in the mind's eye.

The only thing I don't like is that the books were short, and if bought, I feel they cost a little too much a piece for the page count. (I wouldn't buy these for the prices they are each listed at, and that is including the omnibus. Happily, it was included with my Scribd Subscription. But this didn't affect my opinions of the book itself.)

I almost didn't listen to this book. I was going to, but changed my mind, then had random.org pick my next read, and out of the 1000+ books I have on my want-to-read list, this one was picked, number matching right up.

An YA fantasy series about a human who is taken to a Fae realm. Brea’s journey begins when she is taken to a different world. She finds this new world amazing and makes her old life impossible to return to. She has to deal with a Queen and a world where a war is about to began. An amazing fantasy world and an exceptional series. With well written characters and perfect for young adult readers.
