About this item
Unravel the threads of clandestine love and political intrigue in this captivating tale, where entangled hearts and hidden agendas collide, weaving a thrilling dance of romance and deception in the shadowy corridors of power.
In this tantalizing lesbian romantic thriller, Sarah Lou Rogers, a disgraced former Secret Service Agent, has sworn off love, finding refuge in fleeting, no-strings-attached encounters after a perilous affair left her life in shambles.
Miranda, known as the ‘Web Spinner of Washington, D.C.,’ is the unseen hand guiding her husband, ultra-conservative Senator Mitchell Reichert, to the threshold of the White House. Despite her sham marriage and a life filled with superficial pleasures, she can’t shake off the memory of one passionate afternoon with Sarah, an encounter she desperately tries to convince herself was just a fling. However, the tables turn when Mitchell is assassinated, and Miranda is named the prime suspect.
Now, on the run, she and Sarah find shelter in the serene and rugged beauty of Sarah’s childhood home, set deep in the mountains of Appalachian Kentucky. As they hide away in the serene landscapes, the echoes of their complicated pasts resurface, and the embers of their tryst catch flame.
In this tranquil mountain town, long-buried secrets are unearthed, and smoldering desires are ignited. As the shadows of their pasts intertwine, will Sarah and Miranda be able to explore their budding romance, or will the looming threats snuff out the sparks of their newfound connection and even their lives?

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book!
4.0 out of 5 stars enjoyable read
While Aoibh has thus far written urban fantasy, The Senator's Widow is her first foray into contemporary romance, and she does it well, following a lot of the tropes present for the genre. It's an enjoyable story, with plenty of growth and sweet moments, as well as angst. It's certainly nowhere near as dark as the Cait Reagen books, either. The focus is very much on their relationship, and the nature of the location that they travel to, so not as much action there as I thought there could be, with Sarah being an ex-secret service agent. It wraps up well and in a believable way, and I did rather like the epilogue. All in all, a good and solid read.

3.0 out of 5 stars He/him, she/her
A bit too fantastical but overall, entertaining.
4.0 out of 5 stars Suspense and sacrifice
The Senator’s Widow spotlights the power, passion, and machinations of U.S. politics, with Miranda as the manipulative wife of homophobic, racist, and ruthless Senator Mitchell Reichert who’s about to announce his candidacy for president.
The night prior to the announcement, Miranda stumbles upon a dangerous secret, so she enlists her sometimes bodyguard and one-time hookup, ex-Secret Service agent Sarah Rogers, to accompany her to the launch.
The senator’s campaign is the briefest ever recorded as a bullet cuts him down on stage. Officials target Miranda as their prime suspect, prompting Sarah to take her into hiding until the real plot and shooter can be sorted.
The pair head to Sarah’s Appalachian home to lie low and regroup with the help of Sarah’s family. The locale and familial support they find in the ravaged coal community helps both women begin to heal from their pasts, start to open up to each other, and consider their priorities for the future.

This was the first one I've actually read.
I loved this story for a few main reasons.
The characters were believable. They were complex, deeply flawed as people, and communicated like real people.
The relationships were believable. They had an ebb and flow, and there were some bitter moments along with some truly tender exchanges.
The world that the story took place in was prescient. It was published in March 2024, and there was an assassination attempt on a candidate for president in late July 2024. The millieu was deeply familiar.
This was the reading equivalent of slipping into a warm bath. I read this faster than any other book I've ever read. I chewed through this one in under 24 hours.
If you enjoy political intrigues and a slow-burn Sapphic romance, this book is for you.
