5.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected! Lot's of practical wisdom through out

As a female purchaser I wasn't sure what I was getting into. However, I was interested in the mindset of a man who was able to attract all these women. My main focus of purchasing the book was to get some game from the ultimate player, to help avoid that 'type' of guy. However, the book humanized him and I could see that he actually had an addiction. Like any addict they will go to any length to get their high; regardless of the drug of choice. That gave me perspective and I honestly had compassion for him. I am someone very familiar with how addiction can take over your life. What I enjoyed about the book was that he was completely honest and that made me respect him. I was able to actually pick up some valuable business lessons from the book, because I am a business owner. He had a very human experience like all of us. Your character is revealed through three things: sex, power and money. How you treat those 3 things shows your character at that time. However, your character can change and evolve. I believe this man has definitely evolved as reveled by the end of the book. Living his life so outwardly the way he did, he finally came to the conclusion that all of the women etc. did not bring him true fulfillment. I look forward to how he plans on giving back to the world now that he has come full circle to truly know what is meaningful and truly beautiful about life. The book is about 500 pages so it is on the longer side, however it is a very colorful story; you will finish it pretty quick. Like they say in the 12 Step programs: thanks for sharing. Share your story and your truth! That is the only way for others to learn and grow from that place of authenticity.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read For Any Man Looking To Reconnect To Their Truest Masculinity
Reviewed in the United States on March 8, 2023
The Setup invites everyone to create the environment for optimal success. Dan Bilzerian shares a real-life account of leveraging a genius, “Set Up” to live his dream life. Or, well, the dream life of every single man on Earth. Dan beat “The game.” Throughout this well-written memoir, he graciously leaves many clues on how to better understand the psychology of women and to increase your attractiveness. I had a hard time putting this book down. I feel, just by having read, more connection to my masculinity. And also feel that my worldview and perception of Possibility have been expanded significantly for the better. I am very excited to see the next chapter of Dan’s life, as he shifts his focus away from himself and towards impacting his massive circle of influence. The book left me in absolute awe in a spirit of deep gratitude! Thank you writing this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book

I loved it. Devoured it in a weekend. So entertaining and interesting. I’ve always awed at this guy in a mix of confusion and admiration. I still do but who he is makes a lot more sense now.

4.0 out of 5 stars Addiction & Excess
Reviewed in the United States on August 3, 2022
Dan's insecurities, excess, addiction, failures and wins are on display. From childhood into adulthood, Dan gives you access to his most hilarious and outrageous moments, which in many cases would give any normal human being ulcers. Btw, his setup, is just that, a perspective on how to accomplish one's goals.

It’s actually well written and quite entertaining. His life is pretty out of this world and different. You don’t have to agree with him, but I do actually think there are some interesting learnings.

5.0 out of 5 stars Read In One Sitting

Fantastic read. I read it all in one sitting. Dan tells the story of his life up until this very point well, closing an extreme episode of his life. An extremely fascinating memoir of hedonism and debauchery that cannot be described clearly unless you were really there. The book does not do it justice to the reality of Dan’s life, which many would not be able to handle.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting at first, incredibly repetitive by the end

What's interesting:

His childhood, where he talks about experiencing bullying, his father's arrest and prison time, and how he eventually turned himself into a star athlete, before throwing it all away on a stupid mistake.

His time in the Navy, where he did everything he could to become a Navy SEAL (but came up just short).

His poker addiction, which he leveraged into a huge income stream.

His improbable rise to fame, despite by his own admission not having any real talents.

What's boring:

The endless cycle of drugs, parties, and sex. At least three hundred pages of this book talk about how he throws an amazing party, does a ton of drugs, sleeps with dozens of beautiful women, and then tries to one-up himself in the next cycle. Is it entertaining at first? Sure. But after a while, it's like listening to the same story over and over while waiting for something new to happen (nothing really does).

The odd:

There are a bunch of vignettes in the book, written by celebrity friends and ex-girlfriends, all of whom spend hundreds of words telling you how awesome Dan is. All of them go out of their way to say that Dan is so much more than parties, sex, and drugs...but that's literally all the book talks about.

I'm still not sure why this guy is famous, and this book didn't help me understand it any better, but it was fairly entertaining for what it was worth.
