About this item

The phone starts vibrating in my hand. It's my father. He never calls. Pulse racing, I sit up in bed and answer. 'Caitlin,' he says. 'You need to come to the house. Right now. It's Olivia. She's back.'

On the night when
Caitlin and Olivia's parents leave them to go to a dinner party, both girls are full of excitement about finally being old enough to stay home alone.

What they don't see is the figure watching them through the open window. Who, after the girls have fallen asleep, will turn the handle of the unlocked back door.

When their parents return, they will find Olivia's bed empty. Their eldest daughter gone. Never to return.
Until now.

But is the woman who claims to be Olivia all she seems? Is everything Caitlin said she saw that night the whole truth?

Their family have dreamed of this moment, but both sisters are keeping more than one secret.
What price will they all pay if they end up believing the wrong daughter?

The absolutely gripping psychological thriller from bestselling author Dandy Smith, with a killer twist you won't see coming.

**Title: "The Wrong Daughter" by Dandy Smith**

**Review:**

Dandy Smith’s "The Wrong Daughter" presents a gripping and unsettling tale of family and manipulation. After disappearing for sixteen years, Olivia returns with a dark mission: to reclaim her younger sister, Catie, and force her into a marriage with Olivia’s husband—who has also been her captor.

Smith deftly navigates the psychological complexities of her characters, particularly Olivia, whose blend of desperation and control creates a tense atmosphere. The novel's exploration of trauma and familial bonds is both intense and poignant. Catie’s evolving understanding of her sister’s motives and her own perilous situation adds to the story’s suspense.

While the narrative is compelling, the emotional weight and dark themes may be heavy for some readers. Smith’s writing captures the reader's attention with its dark twists and moral ambiguities, making "The Wrong Daughter" a riveting, albeit unsettling, psychological thriller.

4.0 out of 5 stars Really good story

Really good story and a fun read. My only complaint is some grammar and spelling errors. Of where it should say off, an s at the end of a word that shouldn't have an s, the chapters are named after the characters and one chapter title has the main characters name spelled wrong, Catlin instead of Caitlin, things like that. They don't bother me to where I don't like the book but they do bother me lol. Good read.

3.0 out of 5 stars It was a page turner for the first 2/3rds or so, then it got ridiculous.

This book started strong as kept me guessing. As someone who usually figures mysteries out long before the ending, I liked the fact that it was a true mystery. However, there is one scene in the book that just goes a little too over the top and is unbelievable that the character involved would behave in the way they did based on everything I’d learned about them so far. The character was not an idiot but suddenly behaved like one. It was a real eye rolling moment. From that point forward it read less like the book I’d been reading and more like a book that was rushed to finish, leaving out some of the great scene setting descriptors that were in the beginning. After that I just read to finish the book. Once finished, I feel like maybe the author was either rushed to meet some deadlines or was simplifying the story in hopes of a series/movie deal. It definitely seemed a little more script like and certainly more rushed in pace compared to the rest of the book. It was just kind of a sad, depressive story with a lackluster ending. I gave it three stars because most of the book was as good and kept me up turning pages, but I didn’t believe it warranted a 4 or 5 because of the reasons listed above.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Summer Read

I gave this book 4/5 rating. It is a great summer read. It kept you on the edge of your seat with surprising twists and turns. Also very touching and well written regarding sisterly relationships. It was a bit confusing with two different story lines until they merged together near the end,but worth it.

Unpredictable & exciting. Constant questioning about what will happen next. Was a little weird at first but set the scene for the rest of the book.

Perfect book to read at the beach or poolside but make sure you have lots of sunscreen on because you'll be glued to this. It's a little bit out there and you may be able to figure it out if you really look close enough it's still entertaining. First read of this author for me but not the last.
