About this item

Wilde Contract Killing and Fish Training, how can I help you?

Murder contract? Piece of cake. Find a jinn? No problem.

New necromancy powers while being followed by an unwanted vampire bodyguard? Not so much.

Trained to handle even the fiercest undead, Dallas Wilde took out a powerful necromancer without breaking a sweat. Okay, that's a lie—there was tons of sweat, but he was victorious all the same.

Unfortunately, killing a necromancer comes with some repercussions. Broody, annoying, vampire repercussions and new abilities to resurrect the dead.

Can Dallas navigate his blood-sucking bodyguard, new powers, feelings for his attractive client and still handle his contract in time to pay his very, very late rent—all while trying not to get super murdered in the process?

Let's hope so.

If you are looking for a new paranormal series to read, with exciting action, steamy sexy times, hilarious banter and snark, this story is for you. I can't get enough of Dallas Wilde, his snarky vampire body guard, and the mysteriously sexy Sias.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dallas - the new h*llraiser!

The story starts with a bang and keeps on going!
Dallas is a wisecracking gun-for-hire. I loved his wit, his newly acquired bodyguard/Thrall (that was a funny situation) and Kevin, his fish that has its own escape bowl (lol!).
I loved that the MCs are not exactly the good guys, more morally questionable, but they are fun, especially Dallas and Zane (the Thrall). Sias took some getting used to...
There is not much in the way of romance, in this installment, but I didn't really miss it too much. Looking forward to seeing what happens with Dallas and the love interest.

The voice for Dallas as narrated by Kirt Graves was really good - the perfect mix of laconic, snarky and sometimes pained. I really enjoyed his performance, the humour was well portrayed (had me chuckling out loud). Definitely hope he'll be doing the rest of the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wilde Ride!! (Nope, no apologies for that)

Sometimes I refuse to resist obvious puns...this was one of them. But accurate. I read my ebooks on a Fire tablet which keeps track of what percentage of the book I'm at, at any given moment. I hit 23%...and I was positive this was going to be five-star read. I was right! The blurb is accurate, but this is also a fun read, with a lot of humor. There's a suggestion of a bit of a hint of a possible romance (*s*) but that's not what the story is about. It's about a hitman-fish trainer-detective, set in a marvelously inventive world of paranormals and magic, and the trouble he gets into (a) with the hit he's working on when the book opens, and then (b) the next job he takes. A great read, and I'm looking forward to future rides on the Wilde train!

This book was so very odd but was really interesting, very creative and so different from pretty much any other book I have ever read. Amazing and descriptive world building, I am super glad for and can’t wait for more of this series!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Slightly Kinky Fantasy

Dallas Wilde is a paid assassin, and fish trainer. He takes on many dirty jobs, like tracking down and killing a necromancer, which is what he's doing when we first meet him. That job does not end as successfully as Dallas thinks, and his next assignment from a wealthy succubus proves to be a challenge. To make matters worse, Dallas seems to have inherited a vampire thrall that insists on being his bodyguard.

“Find the Jinn” is set in an otherwise contemporary fantasy world where demons such as incubi, succubi, and jinns are real, as is their magic. With minimal effort, the author manages to paint a convincing picture of a modern big city with gleaming towers housing the very rich and seedier neighborhoods where the poorer folk live and play.

Dallas is definitely a complex character, and this first book of a series only scratches the surface of his make-up. We get just a few glimpses of possible childhood trauma that set him on the path of hunting down people using dark magic. He hides it all under an impish, bad-boy persona that doesn't seem to fool anyone. Dallas is surely a modern hero in the mold of those who technically operate on the ‘wrong’ side of the law, like Han Solo.

“Complicated” doesn't even begin to describe Dallas' love life. He seems game for sex with just about any male, human or demon, but there's definitely a special feeling for his sometimes-employer, Sias. Dallas willingly submits to the succubus' charms and, it seems, would do whatever the wealthy demon asks. The relationship with his newly acquired vampire thrall Zane is something completely different altogether. Neither of the two is thrilled to be magically tied together, and they seem to delight in irritating each other, but you sense that there might be something more between the two eventually.

This first book of a new series is relatively self-contained but leaves enough minor loose ends and questions about Dallas to leave plenty of room for later books.

3.0 out of 5 stars Hmmm

It was a decent read but not a romance novel. Pretty good world building for an urban fantasy/sci-fi. I think if I hadn't expected a love story that I probably would have liked it more. It erotic scenes but not a love story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Over Too Damned Fast

It's not often, ok, it's VERY often, that I want to continue reading a particularly good book, but Find the Jinn ramped that desire up to eleven!

Maddox hits the perfect balance of hot mess, badassery and snark in Dallas, making him sarcastic without being mean and accident-prone without being an idiot. I loved him from Chapter 1!

Zane, the vampire Thrall, is Dallas's perfect foil. Calm, level-headed, and good-natured when Dallas isn't dragging him into ridiculous situations.

And Sias? Well, Sias is everything anyone could ever want in a part-time romantic partner/client. Right? Wealthy and influential with sexy-charm magic. But...

Though the crazy plot twists and turns, stumbling antics, crazy death magic and sex, I held out hope that the attraction shared by a baby necromancer and his Thrall would trump a suave incubus playboy. But alas, I shall not spoil the plot!

5.0 out of 5 stars More Kevin

More Twig. More Zane. But Kevin is clearly the MC. Really hoping for book two because now I'm invested. Plus, the relic series is now done so I'll need this series to go on.
