About this item

The powerful story of a 1,000-mile healing walk—from the lochs of Scotland to England's southwest coast—in a remarkable evocation of modern-day Britain.

Raynor Winn knows that her husband Moth's health is declining, getting worse by the day. She knows of only one cure. It worked once before. But will he—can he?—set out with her on another healing walk?

The Cape Wrath Trail is hundreds of miles of grueling terrain through Scotland's remotest mountains and lochs. But the lure of the wilderness and the beguiling beauty of the awaiting glens draw them northwards. Being one with nature saved them in their darkest hour years earlier—and their hope is that this experience can work its magic again.

So Raynor and Moth embark on an incredible thousand-mile journey: from Scotland to the familiar shores of the South West Coast Path, from Northumberland to the Yorkshire moors, and from Wales to home again. As they map with each step the landscape of their island nation, they find themselves facing existential questions—about themselves and about their country—during this epic, inspiring odyssey.

Stay tuned at the end of the audiobook for a conversation with Raynor and Moth over a "cuppa".

I have read all 3 of this author's books. They all bring out the wanderlust in me. They all make me want to get up and just go for it, and walk, walk, walk. I feel like I have been living vicariously through her books! I am a walker anyway and the author's books have encouraged me to do more, Especially finding out that this kind of exercise can really change our brain for the better. Neuroplasticity of the brain is real. I believe the reset of our brain can indeed be accomplished. Moth proves this. It is so easy to become involved in these peoples lives and really care about them, please keep on truck'in, as I will also due in part to your wonderful books!

I’ve read 3 books by this author. Really incredible stories of her intrepid travels and very very inspiring life. She and her husband faced many obstacles. Their love and descriptions of nature are so beautiful. Much admiration for them both. Deep thanks to the author for writing these books.

I have had this book for a week or two. I did not want to start it yet as I wanted to savor it. I had just finished her second book, The Wild Silence. It was fantastic!! Winn has progressed a lot as a writer since her first book, The Salt Path. Whereas the first book was more about the physical journey she takes with her husband, Moth, The Wild Silence was more about the life journey they are taking. I know how publishers these days make authors commit to three book contracts, so I feared that Landlines, being the third book, would not be as good as the other two books due to fulfilling a contract. I was wrong! I am only through chapter 5 - but I am on another glorious journey with Ray and Moth. Great book. Great writer.

An inspirational story of walking long distance that heals not only the mind but a diseased physical body. A couple whose lives embrace hope, endure hardships and are renewed both in body & spirit at the end of their journey.

This is fitting continuation of the love story of RayAnn and Moth. Their persistence and love of the outdoors come through for them again. This evokes the terrain from the highlands of Scotland to the cliffs of Cornwall on a step by step basis.
