About this item

When a driven businesswoman from Boston collides with a free-spirited artist on a Vermont mountainside, they share a memorable—and steamy—night, but life soon pits them against each other over the fate of a family business.

Emily Janssen prefers to play it safe. At thirty-five, she’s still working at the inn her grandmothers own while dreaming of a day when she’s able to support herself fully with her art. And while her friends have all hiked to the summit of the mountain in their hometown of Crescent Falls, Vermont, something has always held Emily back.

Diana Devlin has already made it to the top. Well, almost. She’s this close to securing the promotion that will put her in line to take over as CEO of her family’s hotel chain when her father retires. Everything is going to plan until an unexpected run-in with an alluring artist on a mountainside throws Diana off course, resulting in one of the hottest nights either she or Emily have ever experienced.

Emily walks away from their rendezvous feeling inspired to channel some of Diana’s confidence and finally chase her dreams. For Diana, it’s a reminder that with the right woman, she is capable of wanting more than one night.

But their growing passion threatens to burn them both when they learn that the hotel Diana’s in town to buy is none other than Emily’s grandmothers’ beloved inn. It’s Emily’s home, and no big city outsider—not even Diana—is going to take it away from her.

Will the view from the top be worth the climb, or will they both have farther to fall?

5.0 out of 5 stars Diana & Emily - Small Town, Big Dreams

Even though there are a lot of reviews for this book already, I can't resist in holding back mine. From the first pages, it's a non-stop love affair with the characters Diana and Emily. Their first meeting captures who they each are so precisely, and the rest of the story does nothing but reveal more and more of each one. The supporting cast and family are also excellently portrayed, as is the small town of Crescent Falls, which plays a central role throughout. I'd have to add my praise for this emotional, honest, feel-good tale, even if there'd already been a thousand reviews.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lovely, comforting romance

Rachel Lacey is my comfort author for a reason. I can always trust her to deliver heartwarming romances featuring characters I empathize with and would want to know in real life, and The View From the Top is no exception. Emily is the sweetest human ever, and honestly, I wish I had her life! Two amazing sapphic grandmas, an adorable hometown, and artistic talent: sign me up! I also loved Emily’s personal journey toward self-actualization and making peace with her past. Our other heroine, Diana, represents a character archetype I’ll always simp for: a badass boss lady with a vulnerable side! As someone who’s struggled with mental health, it was touching to watch Diana become more open about her anxiety.

As many others have pointed out, the spice in this book is top-tier! Dang, Rachel Lacey knew what she was doing when she wrote this one. I’m usually pretty take-it-or-leave-it when it comes to sex scenes, due to being on the ace spectrum, but these ones were a heck of a lot of fun.

The romance between Emily and Diana is so sweet and I loved how supportive they are of each other. There’s no doubt in my mind that they are each other’s soulmates, and I was absolutely giddy reading that ending! However, I didn’t feel the emotional connection as strongly as I did in most of Lacey’s other books. I found myself wanting more on-page romantic development scenes, and I wanted to be shown more of what drew them to each other.

Overall, I had a great time reading this book! I’m looking forward to seeing more of the Adventurers squad, plus hopefully a certain reclusive famous lady…

5.0 out of 5 stars A Delightful Rendering of Mature Love at the Crossroads of Life ????

Finally, we who are over the age of 40, have insightful authors who can present the conflicts that we face when we approach that middle ground of our lives when, if we are lucky, may need to choose between 24/7, casual, committed, long distance and if we are lucky marriage.
This is the story of two very different women approaching 40 who are both set in their ways and decision driven by their family.
Thanks to the talented Ms. Lacey, we are invited into the lives of two women whose hopes of finding “ever after” have been placed by the wayside. One power driven. One damaged by wary abandonment.
It is very sweet, very challenging, very believable.
Also very poignant.
I also want to compliment the author on her commitment to showing that sex/romance over 35, can be just as hot and generous as this who share it at a much younger age b
I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and recommend it highly.
I look forward to my next Lacey novel.

It was a cute romcom but the storyline felt drawn out and I wish the scenery felt more descriptive for a cozy read.

The View from the Top is a beautiful story set in picturesque Crescent Falls, Vermont. It explores the theme of accepting and allowing change through compelling and relatable details and dialogue. Emily and Diane are opposites whose emotional attachment allows them to explore something neither thought they would ever find. The supporting cast of characters is varied and detailed allowing readers to become more fully immersed in the reading experience. It’s a brilliant and spicy story about overcoming fear, leaning into vulnerability, and embracing change. So grab your copy immediately, settle into your favorite reading spot, and enjoy the view!

This is the perfect fall season Romance! It's so warm, comfy, and cozy. ????????????

Diana and Emily start off hot and heavy, both of them thinking it's only a one-night thing. However, after realizing that their worlds have collided, they try to keep things platonic. That just leaves room for them to truly get to know one another and connect on a deeper level. Plus, I love all supporting characters - family, friends, etc. Makes you feel that small-town magic
