About this item

Casey Stevens needs distance from her movie producer parents and her social media starlet ex-wife. When she lands in Rocky Springs with a bruised ego and a pile of cash, the quaint tourist town seems like the perfect place for a fresh start. But is it the right place to make her dream of owning a classy sex shop a reality?

Tara McCoy knows a thing or two about licking her wounds. She never wanted to move back home, but she’s making the most of it, turning her family’s sleepy bakery into a cupcake destination. The last thing she wants next door is some seedy sex store, even if it’s promoting self-care as much as sex. And especially if the new owner is drop-dead gorgeous.

With the busy holiday season heating up, neither can afford to be petty or lose a customer. But when their reluctant truce melts into a little bit of sugar and a whole lot of spice, will love prevail, or will their differences be too hot to handle?

Oh, this was a good one!

A sex shop opens up next to a cupcake shop... doesn't that sound like the perfect match? Casey and Tara were such a cute pair. This holiday romance had everything - humor, drama, snow, sweets, and spice????????????. A great read!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book overall and a pleasant reading time

I really enjoyed the reading experience with that one. It's very hallmark, although not that Christmassy, with just the right amount of angst and humor for my liking. The banter sometimes bordered on too...cringe for me, but it never actually crossed that line. I wouldn't call it super hot but there is some spice in there. It's a good middle ground for people who don't want hot and heavy but also not closed door.

Not a 5 stars because I don't like the trope used for the 3rd act conflict. I mean, I knew it was coming but it could have been so many other, less cliché, things. Characters don't always act like the adults they are. Casey is 41 and she sometimes feel more like 21 in her relationship with Tara. I did love the Grand Gesture though, that was a good one (and, okay, pretty swoony), and I liked the beginning of the relationship with Tara coming around.

I also enjoyed the secondary characters and kind of hope the authors will write more in this universe. I want more Natalia! And more Aspen. And more of the Sweet Spot.

I wish we had seen Casey stand up to Jenkins and for that side of the story to be developped a bit more but oh well, it is a holiday romance after all. I guess dealing with the "family values" folks would taint the whole "everything is perfect in this world" vibe.

An advanced copy was provided to me but all opinions are my own.

Casey Stevens’ becomes a social pariah when her cheating social media star wife and her divorce. Her friend Kit invites Casey to escape for a while to Rocky Springs - Kit’s quaint and cute (and very small) hometown. Casey is enamored by the small town and decides to follow a long time dream - to open her very own sex shop - The Sweet Spot. And it’s not your ordinary sex shop - but something classy and educational.

Tara McCoy and her sister Shawn run Coy Cupcakes. Tara had returned to Rocky Springs a couple of years earlier after becoming disillusioned by the New York baking scene. She knows a thing or two about starting over, pursuing your dreams and is determined to turn her family bakery into a destination for locals and tourists alike. Tara isn’t exactly keen when The Sweet Spot opens right next door to the bakery. But Casey is sweet and charming and hot!

Frosted by the Girl Next Door is a bit of a forced proximity, sapphic holiday romance. If you like it sweet and a little spicy, with a dash of holiday drama, you’ll love Frosted by the Girl Next Door!

I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cute and spicy holiday, small town romance.

Jaime Clevenger and Aurora Rey pair up again delivering two spicy holiday romances. I still fondly remember reading their last pairings, The Mile High City Romances from 2021. In this book Casey Stevens arrives in Rocky Springs, Colorado to lay low after a very public Hollywood divorce. Her parents are famous directors and producers and her ex hoped to ride that to stardom. It’s never quite explained if she has trust fund money or her parents support but she decides to open a classy and positive sex shop on the small town main street.

Next door Tara McCoy runs her family bakery. She tried making it in NYC but instead returned home and has elevated the business with her famous cupcakes as the draw. She isn’t thrilled with the new shop next door but quickly connects to Casey wanting to show her the charm of Rocky Springs and help her as a new business owner.

The characters are great and there are very sweet moments including ice skating and a holiday market. Where the book gets less interesting is when it drags in the drama of the ex and Tara abruptly returns to Hollywood leaving Tara in the dark. I don’t know why that didn’t work well for me. Maybe it was the continual missing of each other's calls or messages. Or that the ex who was supposed to be so evil but now maybe Casey’s parents were partly to blame. But the story improves as soon as it returns to Colorado.

I love this book and ‘A New Leash on Love’ which features a romance for Casey who runs the bakery with Tara are happening at the same time. And it doesn’t matter which book you read first, it is fun to read the other and see where the characters meet up or have overlapping events.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really cute!

This was a super cute sapphic romcom set in an adorable small-town! There's funny banter, small businesses, lots of cupcakes, and also some serious moments. I love the queer representation as well as the therapy positivity. I love the important conversations had about sex positivity and safe spaces for teens. I also loved getting to see Tara and Casey navigate their own selves as they get to know each other and fall in love.
A perfect book for the holiday season! Thank you, Netgalley, for the opportunity of reading this ARC!
