About this item

Romily

You know what I'd like to know? Where the hell my romantic, how-we-got-engaged story is. Am I going to get it any time soon? Where is my big ass diamond?

Unfortunately, all that romance-novel-level relationship angst gets put on (indefinite) hold when my beloved son, Bellamy, is targeted by who knows who was poisoned and then abducted by a wolf-ish person I kinda like. Am I going to get my kid back? You betcha. The question is, how many people does Fox have to kill first?

The Trouble With Trying to Save an Assassin is an M/M paranormal romance with plenty of sass, gore, and questionable decision-making skills (and now there are tiny tables, too).

5.0 out of 5 stars fun series

I have done no research about who came first or anything about either of these writers, but the humor Jennifer Cody writes with reminds me of Alice winters books and she’s my favorite, so I’m happy to have stumbled on these. It’s such a fun world and I love the ridiculousness of the characters with one another.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than the first

While the first book was a fun ride, the plot of this story is far superior. We got better emotional development, better plot development, and better character development. One of my biggest gripes about the first book was the lack of emotional processing on Romily’s behalf. It was all humor and lacked depth. I appreciate that this book took the time to show us how deeply Romily’s past has affected him.

My only issue, and it’s hilarious that the author themself pointed this out, is that she tends to end her books too abruptly. Although she added an epilogue to try and fix that… it was still too abrupt. Lots of build up, then it ended almost instantly after the conflict was resolved.

Overall though, great book with a wonderful cast of characters.

Hilarious addition to book 1. Love the inner monologue of Romily. So funny. This book they spent trying to fix Bellamy and his protection and then find him after he was taken. Loved the new addition of edovard. Can’t wait for more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Now with more tables!!!

I love this series! Yes, the table fetish still exsists! The characters are morally grey, and the plots are very twisty. They characters may be murdery, but they are loyal and lovable! ( most of them! ;) )
I definitely recommend this series. Prost!

This murder family is the best. The tone and voice are hilarious and it is a bloody and heartfelt massacre of lovely and loving joy, with an emphasis on blood. Fun gore, great times.

Jennifer Cody is a new(ish) to me author. This is the second book I've read by them, and it has absolutely cemented their place on my authors to autobuy list.

In this second installment of the Murder Sprees and Mute Decrees series, the author continues to add fascinating detail to the already complex world fleshed out in the first book.

I'm not going to give you a recap of the Blurb or a blow by blow description of the novel itself...I'm just going to tell you that if you enjoy truly well done world building, stellar word-smithing, and the clearly communicated sass of a mute boy with a kink for competence, then get yourself a treat and buy the series.

You can thank me later.

4.0 out of 5 stars A fun read

The Trouble With Trying to Save an Assassin is the follow-up to The Trouble with Trying to Date a Murderer and Fox Recruits a Mute Boy [And Falls in Love]. Those two should be read first before diving into this story.

This was a fun, action-filled story that also involved some darker scenes with an easy enough plot to follow as well as a couple of sexy moments between Fox and Romilly. This has a good number of funny sections and a well placed emotional moment as well. The humor might not be for everyone and for some it might take a certain mood to really get into it, but when it clicks - it just clicks.

The found family vibes was still quite strong in this one and that definitely shone throughout. The characters are quirky, silly and definitely fit the various character tropes one often see in most stories. Most of those were exaggerated but definitely worked well with the style of storytelling involved.

If you loved the first book, I definitely recommend reading this as well.

This would be a 4 stars out of 5 stars.

I love these crack stories, they have great characters, an amazing storyline and the most hilarious dialog. So about to dive into the next book, and I can't wait for the rest to be published.
