About this item

A laugh-out-loud, slice-of-life martial-arts fantasy about . . . farming????

Jin Rou wanted to be a cultivator. A man powerful enough to defy the heavens. A master of martial arts. A lord of spiritual power. Unfortunately for him, he died, and now I'm stuck in his body.

Out in the middle of nowhere, I've managed to escape a life of cultivation and politics. Until now, that is. I guess it was inevitable they caught up with me eventually. I haven't exactly been subtle. You know, what with the talking animals performing heroics all over the Azure Hills and Xiulan constantly calling me a Hidden Master.

A part of me wants to run away again. The memory of my death still haunts my dreams. But this is my home now. And I'll be damned if I give it up without a fight.

I mean, all I have to do is learn how to navigate xianxia politics and train for battle while simultaneously running my farm and uncovering an ancient cataclysm that apparently destroyed the Azure Hills back in the day.

Meanwhile, I'm about to be a father . . . Man, I'm kinda screwed, aren't I? At least I can call in the cavalry—ahem, poultry—to help.

The fourth volume of the blockbuster progression-fantasy series—with more than 20 million views on Royal Road—now available on Kindle, Kindle Unlimited, and Audible!

I have not enjoyed a series of books as much as these in a long time. Every character is well developed. The world is beautiful and described magnificently. And the story is a wild ride spanning the complete emotional range. I could not recommend this series more highly.

I absolutely love this author. The pages fly by, and the stories and characters melt your heart. The characters in the world that the author has created are multidimensional, and even the villains have character. The story is layered and complex without being overbearing. This is an excellent book for all ages. Younger readers may have trouble following the plot lines, but if they can handle Narnia, they can handle this.

This series is: interesting, well thought out, amusing and sometimes heartwarming.

I would definitely suggest it to others, hope there's a book 5,6 and 7 eventually.

Funny, relaxed, and layered, this series is a balm for the soul. The characters, relationships, humor, and philosophy are well written and interesting.
The best slice-of-life I have found. In part because the characters strive to avoid xianxia b.s.
    Strongly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good continuation of the story

This was one of those parts of a storyline, where there had to have structural world building and as such I was a little disappointed the story wasn’t longer. However it was completely necessary and I am really looking forward to the next one.

This fourth in the series is a book I was looking forward to ever since I finished the third. I was certainly not disappointed. It traverses the full spectrum of emotions as it tells of triumphs and failures, of birth and death as well as even rebirth with Teilan, the earth spirit, as the land is healed and she is reborn. I recommend highly the entire series. It will make you laugh out loud as well as tear up at other times. Read it and enjoy.

Great character development and fun and creative twists to the genre. While this book might feel a bit slower, it wraps up a lot of loose ends and sets the stage for the next one.

Casualfarmer's writing is so good. I love the humor, the characters, and the just plain goodness and warmth that pervades this saga. There are no big battles for Fa Ram in this installment of "Beware The Chicken", rather it's a consolidation, a birth, and preparation for the Big Réunion our Jin will be facing. Plenty of humor and healing, and some really endearing and hilarious viniettes. True to form good, clean mischief is ever afoot, thanks be to Casualfarmer. Thoroughly enjoy it and really looking forward to the next one.
