5.0 out of 5 stars Angsty in a Good Way

I usually like low angst stories but this one is angsty in a good way, which means they work through it quite quickly but more just keeps popping up. I kept reading and I love this story! Loved that there wasn't just BIG angst that stretched through the whole book. There were bits and pieces of it and they worked through all those bits and pieces. It was amazing really. Please try this one, even if you're like me and prefer a minimum of angst.
I gave it 5* because I'm in awe of the author who did such a fantastic job of writing this.

I absolutely loved Taming of a Rebel and wanted to give this one a try. Definitely a tough one for me though However, I’m glad I did stick with it. Very interesting dynamic that I haven’t read before. Although, I was utterly confused the majority of the first half of the book. There isn’t much back story but the author does well bundling it all together by the end. There isn’t much drama and the self deprecation of the one MC gets old quickly. The sex scenes are well written and are different than the typical ones that I’ve read in the majority of sapphic romances. I look forward to reading more from this author!

This book and it's characters are a little more complicated than in the previous books. They have several layers protecting their hearts and have a hard time opening up. Haylee is just trying to keep her head above water and is crushing on Cherish who is at the beck and call of Febe. As I read the story and their lives unfolded I became more and more invested in how the relationships would turn out. There is plenty of heat between Cherish and Haylee too. I am very excited that Febe will have her own story in the future.

I have read multiple books from Eada Friesian.

It is a slow burn between Haley and Cherish. Miscommunications almost cost them their happiness. But with the interference of friends and brothers it all work out in the end.

This was definitely a different take on the unrequited love troupe. It kind of reminded me of the lyrics to the song "Love Stinks" by the J Geils band. I had a hard time getting into this story because there were issues you have no context for until you get further along in the story. Through most of the story, I just wanted to give Cherish and Haylee a hug.

3.0 out of 5 stars Tropes: Ice Queen, Slow Burn, Secret Crush (Triangle)
Reviewed in the United States on September 30, 2024
I will start out by saying I did not enjoy this book as much as Eada Friesian’s other novels. The novel is Tropes: Ice Queen, Slow Burn, Secret Crush (Triangle) written in third person and I struggled a little at first with who the main love interests were supposed to be. I do prefer first person but I didn’t have this struggle with her other novels.
The novel features Haylee, who we met in the book Taming of a Rebel, but none of the other characters from Rebel make an appearance. Haylee is an office assistant at a company that focuses on therapy services. Her passion is to convince the boss to start a specialized therapy category for friends and non-immediate family of veterans. Haylee lives with or couch surfs with friends but we don’t see her interacting with them much. She has a brother she is close to and calls often but otherwise she seems very alone. She has a crush on her co-office assistant Cherish.
Cherish also seems very alone. She is a country girl who moved to the city for her best friend and boss Febe. She has an unrequited crush on Febe. They grew up together and I’m guessing they are around the same age. The book mentioned an age gap between Cherish and Haylee but I don’t think we were ever told Cherish’s age so I don’t know the extent of the gap. Haylee is 34. Febe is old enough to be a grandma. But how old is Cherish?
There is steamy office tension between between Cherish, Febe, and Haylee. I can relate to the characters experiencing intrusive thoughts. We do realize the main love interests in the book are Haylee and Cherish. There was an odd scene at one point with Febe and Allegra (she runs a foundation that Febe is passionate about) where one of them seemed to play footsie with Cherish. It confused me.
While this was a slow burn there were some nice spicy scenes. I didn’t really feel like I was rooting for the characters to get together as I wasn’t that invested in them. Overall I did enjoy the book but would probably not reread it.

This was a very long and deliberately slow burn. The sexual tension, the miscommunications, and all the other usual stuff, but done and away that the story comes across as just that little bit different

I love everything about this book where the author takes the characters. It's laugh out loud funny and heartfelt. Can't wait for the next book.
