About this item

A path from trauma to transformation that doesn’t rely on willpower, but rather on the daily power of the Holy Spirit—from pastor and leadership coach Christopher Cook

“Razor-sharp focus . . . a clear-cut path to find healing.”—New York Times bestselling author and pastor Mark Batterson

The pain that happened to you is real . . . and it matters immensely.

The notion of healing what you can’t erase is not about ignoring the devastation of your past or putting a glossy, positive spin on current tragedy. That plastic version of faith isn’t actually faith; it’s unbelief.

Healing What You Can’t Erase offers a far better solution—a road map for moving forward through the losses and scars by allowing the power of the Holy Spirit to transform us . . . spirit, soul, and body.

Through story, instruction, action steps, and guided questions, you’ll discover

why transformation beats willpower and self-help

how to recognize and heal a broken spirit

well-researched, biblically grounded strategies to revitalize your mental and emotional well-being

how inside-out integrated transformation changes your spirit, soul, and body

Whether you’re wrestling with the loss of a marriage, a fractured friendship, a betrayal at work, or a chronic illness, there is hope. No matter your pain or traumatic experience, the Holy Spirit can heal and restore you to the life God created you for.

This is an excellent book. It covers areas of unhealed grief, losses, and trauma. It is a book about heart transformation rather than behavior modification. “Transformation is for wholeness. Wholeness is for strength, maturity, and longevity to serve the Lord and the people around us with humility, excellence, and honor.” “Transformation takes TIME - total surrender, intentional, pursuit, maturity mindset, eternal motivation.” More often than not, we are called to “walk through” our pain rather than receiving an instant “breakthrough”. This book is written in a very easy to read and understand manner, and it will help you to process hard things. Each chapter ends with a summary, life application questions, and a prayer. This book is not just for information, but it is for you if you are looking for true heart change.

This book had a huge and healing impact on me. He helped me see some things about myself that I hadn't considered before. He has provided a conversation for where we can go with our grief. I felt understood in so many moments. His transparency and the way he spared no words in describing his painful journey touched me in that we all suffer greatly in this life at some point. How we navigate that pain can be the difference between a life of gratitude and going to the next level, or literally dying a slow emotional death. His book is compelling in giving us a way forward with a clear cut path to a life that's thriving. Profound and transforming read and I can't recommend it enough!

5.0 out of 5 stars This book helped with my healing after a divorce

Wow. Talk about a life-changing book. The chapter "Necessary Grieving" was huge as I went through a divorce this summer. It was a season of grief I have never experienced before.

In particular, this paragraph of the chapter, part of "Grief Changes Us," left a lasting imprint:

"Through my own and others' journeys of bereavement, I've discovered that we all end up with scars. And those scars tell a story. But the question is, what story will your scars tell? One of loss with restoration because you have grieved wholeheartedly? Or one of bitterness like those who have no hope? My point is that in the meta narrative of healing what can never be erased in our lives, grieving is a necessary and prominent player. We must engage with it if we want to heal. The Lord comforts all who mourn, but I do not believe we will ever receive the fullness of comfort He offers and readily provides until we willingly and vulnerably come into His presence with our fractured hearts."

Thank you, Christopher, for sharing stories of your struggles and loss, while giving reminders from the Bible of hope, because it helped me get through a season of the biggest loss of my life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally something relatable

I just read this book and it was a timely blessing! After I read Christopher’s story and discovering he developed MS too, it really helped me understand that we humans try so hard to beat the pain of what life throws our way in very unhealthy ways. Every word was healing- especially the chapter on shame! And the ending of the crippled boy who had a place at the table stirred something inside my spirit that I didn’t even have the words to process. I don’t have to be so strong for God to accept me. And I can be okay with being a bit scared- but that doesn’t mean I have to prove my faith he knows my heart. If you have experienced any trauma in your life this book is for you! If you are always depending on yourself to heal, this book is for you. I was able to let a lot of the self criticism go! I hope you can too! Buy the book!
