About this item

Pro wrestler and political commentator Tyrus goes deep into his wild but triumphant life story, from his painfully dysfunctional upbringing to bodyguarding for Snoop Dogg, to becoming a wrestling icon and one of the most provocative on-air voices today.

The product of a 1970s mixed marriage, George Murdoch learned to fight early in life, fending off both race-baiting bullies and the demons of a dysfunctional home. Couch surfing all through high school and most of college, the quick-witted, sharp-tongued giant played football, ran drugs, and bounced at clubs to try to survive. After a false start with the WWE, he eventually became Snoop Dogg's bodyguard and traveled the world with the hip hop legend, biding his time and honing his rap. When the WWE urged him to return, George became "Brodus Clay" and, for the next several years, reinvented himself numerous times under the watchful mentorship of the legendary Dusty Rhodes, "the American Dream." He was eventually christened "Tyrus," and shortly after, a chance social media encounter with Greg Gutfeld at Fox News resulted in Tyrus finding a new skill: sage social commentator. Ferociously funny, blunt, and tenacious, Just Tyrus traces his unlikely and spectacular rise. As always with Tyrus, it's in-your-face and offers no apologies.

Insights into his life were fascinating. He has had so many crazy experiences and owned it, good & bad. His candor and perspective are refreshing.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Magnificent Tyrus

I'm such an admirer of the great Tyrus. I always want to hear his take on any topic on the various shows he appears on. He makes every single show better just for being on it. This book gives us a detailed, thoughtful and honest look into his life from the youngest age onwards, and you learn what made him the wonderful person he is today. Reading about his trials, tribulations, sadness, failures and triumphs just makes you love and appreciate him even more. He has earned an enormous army of admirers and adoring fans, with very good reason. He's a great, complex, super intelligent, knowledgeable, multi-talented and thoughtful man. A teddy bear and a sweetheart. And a wonderful, funny comedian with a very witty and wry sense of humor!

A well written memoir from an entertainer I’d known little about. I appreciated the “back stage” glimpses into his high profile jobs. Tyrus has a positive, common sense approach to life.

I didn’t know anything about Tyrus but I always enjoyed seeing him on Fox channel. I decided to buy the book to learn about him. Tyrus didn’t have an easy life. Nothing was handed to him he worked hard and became a very intelligent and good man. Really enjoyed the book.

    5.0 out of 5 stars A Must-Read for a Fresh Perspective

I had seen Tyrus on Gutfeld! and appreciated his viewpoints on current events and societal issues. I had never heard of Tyrus before. I found his opinions to be logical common sense and a fresh perspective of both sides of issues that many of us haven’t experienced. His approach is humorous and is never negative. I was interested in learning more about him so I bought this book. It was an open, honest, and heartfelt account of his life and the experiences that shaped him, and that drew me in and held my attention. I read the entire book in one afternoon; I couldn’t put it down.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful lessons.

I grew up almost the opposite, the well-loved only child of loving scientist/engineer father and grandparents (my mother having died in an auto accident when I was almost three). Still, I got an ass whooping when I deserved it, mostly from my grandmother, daughter to a Prussian military family. Tyrus’ book outlines the most important lessons in learning to be a man, which are the same whether you are black or white, green or polka-dot. Stand up for yourself and your own, deliver what you promise, don’t screw other people and don’t let them screw you, be the best you can at something you love, love something beyond yourself, don’t quit. Ever.

Tyrus tells his growth and learning beautifully, and despite seemingly overwhelming odds has succeeded magnificently. My handicapped oldest son wrote a letter to Tyrus, which I hope to give him tonight.

Read this book. If it doesn’t make you cheer, you need to grow a heart.
