About this item

A fascinating journey through our circadian rhythms, sleep, and health, by a world-leading expert on circadian neuroscience

The routines of our modern lives-home working, night shifts, technolog—are playing havoc with our body clocks, sleep patterns, and health. Packed with cutting-edge science, this book by award-winning scientist Russell Foster takes the listener on a journey through our days and nights, and explains how we can get back into rhythm and live healthier, sharper lives.

In the past few decades, there has been an explosion of discoveries around the science of the body clock and our twenty-four-hour biological cycles. Sleep and daily rhythms emerge from our genetics, physiology, behavior, and the environment. Like most of our behaviors, they are not fixed. These rhythms are modified by our actions, how we interact with the environment, and how we progress from birth to old age.

Cutting through long-standing myths, Foster empowers listeners by providing concrete information and guidance that can be used to understand what makes the body clock "tick."

This is a must read if you want to live healthy...I so much appreciated the latest information based on scientific research presented on how to live. I feel less guilty about going to bed early and as a former Diabetes Nurse Specialist I enjoyed reading the correlation of circadian rhythm and blood sugar control. Also the information about cancer and c.r. is most interesting. Please read this book and live healthy.

4.0 out of 5 stars good information, but is not for the general reader

Good information on the subject of knowledge and advances in the field of circadian cycles and how they are relevant for our health.
Yet, it gets too dense at times and more oriented to medical professionals than to the general reader.

I was looking for a book filled with studies and very interesting things to help my with my sleep . In order to fix my sleep I first had to understand. This books does exactly that along with the remedy , I use to have average around 5 days of bad sleep a week and now I average around 2-3 every 2 weeks . It’s been a tremendous improvement and a really good book with humor and no nonsense. Thank you for this well written read. ( of course I read some things or skim some things that don’t apply to my situation since this book covers everything A-Z )

Much minute detail. May be too much. But has interesting stuff to share. You just have to wade through the whole thing to find it. Lost among all of the detailed information.

While this is an informative book, I'm not sure it breaks much new ground for even laymen who have stayed relatively informed about the impacts of disruptive sleep cycles and similar topics.

This book explains how circadian rhythms affect sleep and other metabolic processes. It’s a treasure trove of information on how to better work with the body to improve health. It’s entertaining and easy to read.

Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.
