About this item

“Best-selling author James Patterson populates his murder-mystery novels with cold-blooded killers and smart detectives” (USA Today). In Holmes is Missing, PI Brendan Holmes has committed the perfect crime—he’s made himself disappear.

Success has come quickly to Holmes, Marple & Poe Investigations. The New York City agency led by three detectives—Brendan Holmes, “the brain,” Margaret Marple, “the eyes,” and Auguste Poe, the “muscle”—with famous names and mysterious pasts is one major case away from cementing its professional reputation.

But as a series of child abductions tests the PIs’ legendary skills, the cerebral Holmes’s absence leaves a gaping hole in the agency roster.

Only by closing ranks and solving the mystery within can they recover all that’s been lost.

5.0 out of 5 stars Breakneck sequel 5 stars!

I sat down to read this as soon as it hit my Kindle… and didn’t stop reading until I’d finished it in the very wee hours of the morning. It was everything I had anticipated it would be at breakneck speed. I’m invested in these characters now. We’re gradually starting to learn just a little bit more about the past of the three mysterious people, and keep your eye on Virginia… she’s a surprise. I highly recommend this sequel… but it’s a true sequel you have to read the first book first or you’ll be lost.

Another impressive work by Patterson! I'm truly fond of the trio: Holmes, Marple, and Poe. This novel, centered around their quest to locate missing infants, was as captivating as the previous installment I read. The exploration of their personal lives adds a refreshing dimension to the narrative, and I eagerly anticipate the next release!

5.0 out of 5 stars Holmes is Missing ! Fantastic Sequel !

Holmes is Missing is the thrilling sequel to Holmes, Marple & Poe.

Holmes, Marple and Poe are private detectives called Poe.

I love these characters so much, we learn so much more about them, personally.

The mystery is about child abductions. Holmes is also missing, but where is he?

I really loved the crime writers conference, that was a fun little nugget.

The characters are so dynamic, complex and well fleshed out.

The mystery is incredible. I love this series so much!!!

    Highly recommend!

There is so much going on in this story! Abducted children stateside and abroad, addictions, shocking and unexpected news, and Holmes wants to quit the PI business. While Holmes is out trying to find himself, he’s drawn to a crime he can’t resist investigating himself.

    Awesome book, awesome series!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

4.0 out of 5 stars The PI firm tackles baby kidnapping case while dealing with personal issues
Reviewed in the United States on January 6, 2025
Holmes is away on personal business when Poe and Marple are called to a private hospital because 6 newborns have been kidnapped from the nursery. Although they were hired by the parents of the babies, there is tremendous pushback from the police.

In this book we learn more about the personal lives and histories of all of the PIs in the 4 person firm. And while their techniques might not always be within the limits of the law, they are highly effective. While investigating the 6 missing newborns, the PIs uncover two similar crimes and a previously undetected series of murders.

I was especially tickled that some of the action takes place in a state park 10 miles from my home and I am well acquainted with the specific area of the park. The book grabs your attention and keeps you riveted. I hope there are more books in the series coming. These are imperfect characters, yet very intriguing.
