About this item

Grief has settled in at Hart House. For nine months, Alfie has been caring for his twin seven-year-old daughters after the sudden death of their mother, Pippa. One night, Alfie wakes to find Sylvie and Cassia at the foot of his bed, claiming there’s a man in their room. Alfie finds no sign of a man, but it isn’t long before the girls start talking about an imaginary friend. What seemingly begins as a harmless coping mechanism for the two grieving girls quickly develops into something more insidious..

Alfie calls upon Julia—Pippa’s twin and a psychiatrist—to oust the malignant tenant from their lives, but he doesn’t want to leave. As his malevolent grip on the girls tightens—with increasingly dark and violent consequences—Alfie and Julia must contend with their own unspoken sense of loss, the haunting past of the house itself, and the true character of the force that has poisoned the girls’ minds.

    3 words: CHILLING. CREEPY. SINISTER.

The writing truly heightened the reading experience for me, the iciness of Hart House seeped out of my kindle and onto my skin. I could NOT enter a dark room without thinking of Black Mamba and feeling edgy.????

My toddler has a large stuff pet snake that has the same eyes as Black Mamba’s was described and I kid you not, I had to put that snake away for a few days. I couldn’t look at it! ????

Highly recommend you add this scary story to your tbr this spooky season!

Drew me right in, and I wanted to know more. A story about greit and the struggle of loss.
It's a good book, but I struggled a bit to connect with the characters and was a bit confusing for a little while at the end.

    -spooky
    -grief
    -suspenseful

Definitely not “formula fiction,” Let Him In immediately drew me in and kept me wanting more up through the very last page. Author William Friend deftly keeps the ending unguessable as he teases the reader by refusing to clarify whether Black Mamba is truly a supernatural entity or a manifestation of the psyches of the characters. I loved this book and can’t wait to read more of William Friend’s work. Outstanding!

Three and a half stars rounded up! This book was an insane roller coaster. Just when I thought I had it possibly figured out, it went in another direction, and so much of it, especially the last couple chapters, left me with more questions. It was still an entertaining read. I want to thank NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to review this.

(2.5 star) I read this one for @thrillerbythebookclub.jax this month, and that's the only reason I stuck it out!
If you caught my IG stories, you'd know I asked when this book picked up pace. The average answer was 31%-50%, and I would agree with that. Up to that point, I was so bored, literally nodding off the first evening I sat down to read it.
Although it does pick up around the 30% mark, I found this read to be generally lackluster. While there are creepy twins, I think I enjoyed them the most! Everything else was pretty predictable, and the father's choices made me facepalm a few times.
I feel like this quick read had some potential and a great cover but just missed the mark for me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Is it grief or something more? .....

A creepy gothic type tale of twins, generational family home, and the imaginary.
Alfie and his small family struggle with the grief of an unexpected death of his wife and mother of his twins. (Whom was also a twin.)
Interesting play on twins sharing the same vision and on dominance.
Last quater of the book theories start to unravel.
    Well written and captivating.
