About this item
A loving mother. A notorious murderer. They both have reasons to hide their secrets in a novel of escalating shock and suspense by New York Times bestselling author A. R. Torre.
Perla Wultz lives with her husband, Grant, and their precious daughter, Sophie, in a gated Pasadena community. Affluent, sociable, and accomplished, Perla plays the part of loving wife and mother to perfection. It seems an ideal life, if not for a decades-old crime that has become Perla’s dark and consuming secret obsession.
Twenty-three years ago, Leewood Folcrum confessed to murdering two young girls during a birthday party. Though he’s been condemned to a life sentence, his crime is not forgotten. Not by Perla, nor by an inquisitive doctoral student interviewing Folcrum for his dissertation. He’s getting the killer to open up—about his motives, his confession, and the truth of what really happened on that horrible night.
As the past and the present entwine, the deceptions behind the infamous murder begin to surface. But who’s deceiving who now? And why? And as an ingeniously twisted plan is set in motion, who will be the next to die?

5.0 out of 5 stars incredible heart pounding thriller.
I couldn’t put this book down. The continual terror you just know is coming. The revelations that keep popping up and making you go WHAT??? so many times. The twists and turns. Even the humorous moments because Perla is THAT outrageous of an evil character. It’s all here.
Outstanding writing. Captivating, gut wrenching story. Brilliant.

4.0 out of 5 stars Perla Wultz is one party planner you won’t forget!
This book focuses on the life of Perla Wultz, and her family. Perla has an eleven year old daughter Sophia, and a very handsome husband, Grant.
Perla is obsessed with the Folcrum Party murders that happened 22 years ago, in which two young girls were murdered at a sleepover and Lee Folcrum is in prison for life for the murders.
Through this story we get the multiple POV’s from Perla, Grant, and Lee Folcrum. We also get to see Sophia’s journal entries and her many thoughts as a young girl.
This story was fast-paced, and Perla’s character was so repulsive it was hard not to keep reading to see what she would do next.
Now, I will say that I did see where this story was going from the get-go (maybe it’s because I read too many books in this genre), but I still found it very entertaining and I do recommend reading this.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dark but I wanted more?
It’s one of those books where once you know the something big, you want to go back and read it again to see all the little clues that you missed the first time around- because they’re abundant.
I guess some part of me is left wanting more information or closure(?) so to speak? I’m not entirely sure why but this book just ended up leaving me unfulfilled.
Even with that being said it still was a messed up, fun book and I would recommend it :)

5.0 out of 5 stars "SLIP OF THE MASK"
In A.R. Torre's gripping narrative, you'll encounter a character whose true nature blurs the lines between protagonist and antagonist. Perla Wultz initially presents herself as the quintessential matriarch and a beloved community leader. However, as the story unfolds, her fascination with a true crime podcast uncovers the unsettling truth: she has been skillfully masking her true self from everyone, including her family. This masterfully crafted facade invites readers to question the very essence of Perla, making for an intriguing and thought-provoking experience.
While the novel may be perplexing at certain points, the journey is ultimately rewarding. The author elegantly weaves together the various plot threads, creating a sense of clarity that makes you feel your time invested was truly worthwhile. The concluding chapters are especially fulfilling, leaving readers with a sense of closure and underscoring the idea that, in time, all secrets have a way of coming to light.
