About this item

An enemies-to-lovers lesbian romance with an ice queen whose frosty facade is melted by the power of touch.

Hannah Martin has an unusual job: she's a professional cuddler. While she has a big heart for her clients, she hasn't found someone special to snuggle up to in her personal life.

Winter Sullivan isn't looking for love. She's an aloof workaholic who's built walls of ice around herself. She would rather drive toothpicks under her fingernails than cuddle, and she certainly doesn't want to share her space with anyone.

When Winter's estranged father dies, he leaves her one last surprise: she and Hannah, a perfect stranger, will inherit a building together. But there's a catch: first, they have to live together for ninety-two days.

Winter is determined to dislike her rival, but soon finds Hannah isn't what she expected at all. Thanks to a hilarious doormat war, a cuddle dare from Winter's half sister, and a kiss in the most unusual of places, the frosty fortress around her heart begins to melt.

Will she be able to accept that love might be just a touch away?

Contains mature themes.

When her aloof father’s last wishes require Winter to share an apartment with a professional cuddler for several months before she can claim her inheritance, the cool, relationship-phobic businesswoman is furious. But spending time around the touchy-feely, big-hearted Hannah, slowly begins to thaw her own heart. Their unlikely chemistry morphs into deeper feelings, but are they deep enough to overcome Winter’s painful past?

Just a Touch Away is a beautiful, stirring story with many welcome flashes of humor. The romance that builds between Winter and Hannah is definitely a slow-burn type, but it evolves in perfect tandem with their development as characters. In particular, Winter’s personal growth as she grapples with complicated family history and confronts her unhealthy coping mechanisms is immersive and inspiring. Although Hannah’s journey is not so dramatic, her character is equally complex and also endearing as she navigates her unique profession with joy and compassion.

If you prefer sapphic romances that deliver emotional depth along with laughs and heart flutters, Just a Touch Away is a must read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Such a true and real story for All Readers

Jae, the author of JUST A TOUCH AWAY, has achieved what too rarely I find in fiction novels--Needing to learn "What's going to happen next!?" It did not matter this was a lesbian romance of 'enemies to lovers'. It did not matter that I was a strait guy reading this sapphic romance novel. All that mattered is that Jae is a wonderful writer with smooh and delicious writing skills that draws you into the story world. Also, she is able to make her primary -and- support characters feel like Real People. The mental trauma issues both Winter and Hannah deal with are authentic and captivating. Her work as a psychologist surely helps the highly visual, truly emotional and fascinating story of how two people so different from each other could fall in love. As an anthropologist I can attest to her 'small community' world-building skills. And to the importance of having friends of your gender who care for, give support to and can be relied on to back you no matter what. Jae's wonderful writing in JUST A TOUCH AWAY caused me to buy and read CHEMISTRY LESSONS , WHINING AND DINING and NOT THE MARRYING KIND. All three are about lesbian couples who feel lonely or isolated and need someone real who sees and cares for the real woman they see opposite them. As a writer myself of space adventure novels, I quite loved the fantastic storytelling in all four of Jae's novels. Will be buying more. Highly recommend this author simply on the basis of her talent at creating romance worlds you regret leaving behind.

I’ve been a fan of Jae’s since I read ‘Something in the Wine’. Every time I pick up her books I know I’ll get humor, interconnected characters and a great plot. ‘Just a Touch Away’ is another book in that vein. It’s the story of an ice queen and cuddling. Would recommend for sure.

This is one of Jae's best books to date! The story was a lot of fun. There were many hilariously awkward moments, a couple tough moments, and even some really hot moments.

Winter is an ice queen, but we quickly get a glimpse of her softer side with Hannah. I find her likable almost right away. As the story progresses it's easy to see that Winter has little to no experience being loved, cared for, or touched affectionately. She clings to her old self-protective beliefs at first.

Hannah is a quiet badass. She's soft, gentle, kind, loving, and understanding. She also has excellent boundaries and stands up for herself in the firmest but gentlest ways. She's fictional and still I admire that about her!

Thrown together as roommates, Winter and Hannah hilariously try to mix their personalities and styles. The tension almost always has an edge of chemistry between them and as the annoyance fades, the chemistry is left behind to grow. This is a slow burn without a single boring moment. Every chapters add the to story and moves it forward.

Read and find out if Winter really eats kittens, who wins the welcome mat wars, and who inherits a million dollar piece of real estate: Winter and Hannah or Winter's awful sister...

Winter and Hannah, just two more personalities from Jae's arsenal of memorable and lovable characters. Sometimes at the beginning of a novel you just can't imagine where the author plans to take you or how two such different people can possibly ever come together. Leave it to Jae to connect all the dots and make it believable. I loved every minute of this book. The slow build-up, and the tearing down of the walls with compassion and understanding. The humor is outstanding as always. Seriously, who does double entendre better than Jae? Her research is impeccable, and it shows in the details. From beginning to end this is one of Jae's best. 10 stars would be more appropriate.

To what lengths will Hannah and Winter go to get the house of their dreams? You'll see, in this wonderfully written tale of unexpected alliances, determination, and search for love. Not all relationships arrive, or work out, in ways we expect or desire. In addition to the main protagonists, family members, friends, and other characters in this story, are penned with insight and passion. I definitely recommend this to readers' everywhere.
