About this item

The memory of Josiah DeMille has haunted me for close to a decade.

The way he looked. The way he smelled. The way his lips felt pressed against mine, even when they shouldn't have been.

The one person I've never been able to get over. The one singular part of my past I've never been able to move on from.

In every lyric sung into the microphone, in every chord strummed on the guitar, in the bottom of every single whiskey bottle, he's there.

His memory has me in a chokehold. His absence a gaping hole in my chest.

I gave up years ago, wondering if I'd ever stop thinking about him.

Josiah DeMille is the ghost of my past. A past I left behind after my rock bottom.

Now he's back, and he's everything I remember him to be and more.

As mesmerizing as ever, a malt perfectly aged in an oak barrel.

But there are dark secrets and shameful lies between us, blurred lines, and an underlying temptation that we've never been able to ignore.

It's a recipe for disaster, an imminent train wreck.

Where will we sit once the dust settles and the truth comes out?

5.0 out of 5 stars Segan and Josiah deserve the world

This story really hits you in the feels from all fronts. Both Segan and Josiah go through so much in their lives before the age of 20 that it makes your heart hurt. In a lot of books we see the MCs normally have one big life changing event, but in life that’s not always realistic. With Segan and Josiah, we get to see a realistic story about addiction, coping, finding yourself, and how to live your life after it all.

Segan and Josiah grow up in a super religious town that makes them and Segan’s girlfriend (josiahs’s niece) want to get out. Getting out isn’t always easy though, and sometimes you find different ways to cope and “escape”. As someone who has witnessed coping mechanisms go wrong, it was heart wrenching to see Segan and Josiah watch it go wrong for someone so near and dear to them. Not only are they going through this heartache but they’re both trying to come to terms with who they are and get away from the town that was trying to drag them down.

This was such an achingly beautiful story. I loved watching them discover who they were and what they wanted. I loved seeing them overcome the odds presented to them and get out. I loved seeing who they decided to become and how they came back together. Their chemistry was amazing and hot. Their relationship was perfectly matched.

I’m such a sucker for an awakening and this was that and beyond!

I really liked this book. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
It was very tragic and sad, but also had HEA.
Segan is from a religious home, as well as his girlfriend Lana. They are each others first loves thru HIghschool.
Both have somewhat traumatic childhoods due to religious mindsets and want nothing keep more than to escape that small town in Utah.
Lana and her Uncle Josiah are close in age, have grown up together and have a close relationship even tho his parents don’t want them to because Josiah is gay.
They still find time to hang out, the 3 of them.
Lana starts losing her way, hanging out with the wrong people, trying to deal with her home life.
Segan and Josiah having spent so much time together alone, start to have feelings for each other.
Josiah decides to leave town to avoid hurting Lana and leaves Segan to watch over her.
Fast forward 9 yrs, Josiah and Segan meet again in Nashville, both of their paths lead them to the same place. Segan has been thru some serious trauma since Josiah left and has a lot of anger built up. He hasn’t told anyone about it and doesn’t realize that Josiah knows everything. They both are successful and happy, in a good place. They just need to work thru their feelings for each other.
I couldn’t put this book down.
It could be called a tragic romance but with a HEA.
    Lots of spicy scenes????️????️????️

This book may be triggering to some.
Mental abuse, drug use, drug OD, suicide, illness.

5.0 out of 5 stars Segan and Josiah ????

Oh my heart ❤️‍????... This angst filled, trigger heavy (so read the warnings if ya got em), beautiful, emotional journey between Segan and Josiah was such an experience. Is the subject matter light and fluffy? No, it most definitely is not. Will your heart ache for these characters and the other characters in their life stories? Absolutely.

I love Ashley James. She is one of my auto-buy authors and I had not read this one yet. Come to find out this predates our time in Copper Lake, Wyoming -BUT you do get a little Copper Lake love in this book which made my heart so happy ????!

When I started reading I really thought I was going to love Josiah more than Segan. No spoilers. I just did ????. But man, Segan took that challenge and stole my heart with his story, the ups ???? and the downs ????. Then when you get these two together... ????????????????.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wow, that was a rough ride

An excellent story, but not for the faint of heart or for those with certain triggers.

Josiah and Segan are a lot of a mess. Their history is fraught with darkness and it taints there interactions until they finally start to work their way through them.

Josiah is a character that it took me a while to like. He isn’t bad exactly and I understand why he made the choices he did, but he was selfish in my opinion, and that rubbed me the wrong way since I knew dark times were coming. He and Segan are separated and doing the best they can to realize their dreams on their own. They’re apart for eight years before they literally bump into each other again.

Life handed Segan an utterly ridiculous hand. Our boy has trauma folks. It was so hard to read certain parts of his story because I wanted to wrap him up in so much love he’d never feel like he did ever again. He finally hit rock bottom and he eventually reached for the stars and caught them. Still, Josiah was never really gone from his heart or mind.

Their road is rocky but their HEA is sweet. I loved seeing them overcome their pasts, more Segan than Josiah, but I would have liked to have seen more of the relationship building between them. As it stood, it was nothing, then some spice, with pulling away, then its wham bam I love you. Their backstory was important to be sure, but the present got shafted in the process of learning about the past.

Even with that, I still enjoyed their story and would recommend it.

Dark scale rating: 6 for drug and alcohol use, drug abuse, semi descriptive death of a main side character, described self harm, and serious illness.
