About this item

Quietly and steadily, the number of women making six figures or more is increasing and continues to rise at a rate faster than for men. From entrepreneurs to corporate executives, from white-collar professionals to freelancers and part-timers, women are forging careers with considerable financial success.

In Secrets of Six-Figure Women, Barbara Stanny, journalist, motivational speaker, and financial educator, identifies the seven key strategies of female high earners: Profit Motive, Audacity, Resilience, Encouragement, Self-Awareness, Non-Attachment, and Financial Know-How.

Based on extensive research and hundreds of interviews, including more than 150 women whose annual earnings range from $100,000 to $7 million, Stanny turns each of the six-figure traits into a specific strategy for upping earnings. By rigorously fine-tuning them, listeners can, step-by-step, climb the income ladder.

5.0 out of 5 stars Every woman should read this book

I have to be honest, the kindle book was a little too pricey for the average woman and I truly believe that every one should be able read this book. Nevertheless, the investment was worth it. The book is well written and easy to follow, providing the perspective of not only successful women but also women who classify themselves as underearners.

I highly recommend this book to every women because it is empowering and a useful resource. I just wish it (the kindle version at least) is accessible or affordable.

If the kindle version of this book was a little cheaper (because the current price point is just around a dollar difference compared to the paperback version), I think a lot of women would read and benefit from it.

It should be a book about empowering women to raise above their circumstances and the current price point is just insanely high. For example, if we want the youth (or recent college graduates) to also succeed in life in the most early way possible, it should be affordable for them too.

Not that I am devaluing the book or the author's brilliance and words of wisdom (as the book did mention that we should price our products and services how we believe they should be) but I really think if it was a little lower it would reach a wider audience and still maintain consistent sales and it's ranking. I truly believe it's a groundbreaking book and worth sharing (or getting in the hands of many women possible). Hopefully the author considers my review or suggestions.

Great book!! This book is all about fixing your personal insecurities around money narrative, how you self-manage money, talk of money, or of other's people money, and overall actionable and mental tips to be more confident with money.

I'm glad I bought this book because it was the NEXT thing I needed in my life. My husband and I were debt free 5/24/2019 by following Dave Ramsey (check him out!).I knew I needed to make more money so I can live my dream life, so her book was the perfect money mental preparation for the next money goals we planned to embark! Take this book seriously and manifest what she says; if not, it's going to be read as "just another motivational book".

Also, I'd like to point out that no matter your race, religion, adversities, income, education, marital status, kids or none, your past job experiences, we all have what it takes and many reasons to improve our money status- to be debt free, make 6 figures, or take a pay cut but to work that gives a purpose, etc. While stats and research conclude that if you're from a certain background that impose generally more adversities, it doesn't mean you can't do it. You may just have less or more adversities than your female counterparts but that still don't change the end results. The social and cultural issues she does address in this book are collectively tied to gender discrimination, women's financial literacy, and women empowerment.

I am a first-generation college student in my family, paid off my school loans (25k over 5 months) with just my husband's support, a woman of color, work in HR, a dream for a better future. Don't let your adversities stop you, be led by your dreams.

I found this work to be insightful, informative and inspiring as someone who has and is still learning what it means to utilize one’s power in various markets. I appreciate what has been named even though there has been some level of evolution to the application of the strategies named. A helpful work in terms of identifying other resources and tools as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Potentially life changing advice about earning more money

This is an excellent book. Barbara Stanny doesn't just theorize about money, she interviews women who are either high earners ($100K to $7 million per year) or underearners. One of her most helpful findings is that underearners don't work less hard than women who earn more, they just get paid a lot less for putting in all the hours and effort. Ms. Stanny also explores some of the psychological reasons that women might tolerate being underearners, starting with some assumptions that poverty is somehow more noble or that focusing on attaining high earnings means sacrificing too much in the rest of your life. Also useful was her finding that many of the high earning women decided to increase their financial security after a painful life event such as bankruptcy or burnout. Setting a clear intention to become a high earner was their first step in making it happen. If you are unhappy with your current earnings level, this book may offer life changing steps to do something about it.

This book has changed multiple perspectives of my life. At first I was shocked to learn I had no real concept of my own relationship with money and was triggered when I discovered it was rooted in how my parents taught me (or didn’t teach me) how to deal with money. She explains how being an underearner is a reflection of your own self doubt and insecurities. This book is about more than money. I have never had so many of my personal fears discussed in a book and thrown into my face WITH a solution to the problem. By the end of the book we were discussing self care and tapping into the GODDES POWER we try so hard to deny and hide. I will be sending this book to many of my friends and rereading in the future! -Autumn Black
